List of Portuguese ambassadors in Brazil

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the Portuguese Ambassador to Brazil lists the Ambassador of Portugal in Brazil on. The two countries have had diplomatic relations since 1825.

From its discovery in April 1500 by the Portuguese navigator Pedro Álvares Cabral until its declaration of independence in 1822, Brazil was a Portuguese colony . It was not officially recognized until 1825 by the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarve , which then took on its old name Kingdom of Portugal again .

The Portuguese embassy was located in Rio de Janeiro , which was the capital of Portugal from 1808 to 1821 and then the capital of the independent empire of Brazil . Even after the Brazilian transition to the republic in 1889, Rio de Janeiro remained the capital and seat of the Portuguese embassy.

After the inauguration of the new capital Brasília in 1960, the Portuguese embassy moved into its new quarters in the embassy district in 1972, in Setor Embaixadas Sul on Avenida das Nações (Quadra 801, Lot 2).

In addition, ten consulates general have been set up throughout the country, to which 23 honorary consulates are affiliated (see also Brazilian-Portuguese diplomatic missions )
