Liu Xuan ( chin.刘璇; born March 12, 1979 in Changsha ) is a former Chinese gymnast .
At the age of 17, she first took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta . With the Chinese team she was fourth in the all-around competition. In the individual competitions she could not qualify for any final.
Four years later she took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney and became Olympic champion on the balance beam. She was able to win two bronze medals in all-around competitions both with the team and in individual competitions. She inherited the bronze medal in the individual competition after the Romanian Olympic champion Andreea Răducan was disqualified for using an unapproved cold medicine.
In April 2010, Liu had to return the team bronze medal she had won in 2000 because her teammate Dong Fangxiao was only 14 years old at the time and was therefore two years below the minimum age; the IOC then put the USA team in third place.
