Lora Hirschberg

Lora Hirschberg (* 1963 near Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American sound engineer . In 2011 she won the Oscar in the Best Sound category for her work on the film Inception , and in 2009 she was nominated for The Dark Knight in this category .

Life

Hirschberg was born near Cleveland , Ohio in 1963 . She studied film and music at New York University . In 1989 she first worked in the film business for The Spirit of '76 , shortly afterwards she moved from New York to San Francisco .

One of her first major Hollywood productions was Mrs. Doubtfire in 1993 . Other big films that Hirschberg worked on included a. Titanic (1997), The Horse Whisperer (1998), Panic Room (2002), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) and between 2005 and 2010 the successful film adaptations of the comics Iron Man and Batman by Jon Favreau and Christopher Nolan . In total, she has worked as a sound engineer in more than 100 films.

Hirschberg was nominated for the Emmy television award in 1996 and 2011 for the films Caught in the Dream Factory and Cinema Verite . For her work on Nolan's The Dark Knight , she was first nominated for an Oscar in the Best Sound category in 2009, but came away empty-handed. She also received a nomination at the BAFTA Awards . At the Satellite Awards it was recognized in the Best Sound (Mixing & Editing) category.

At the 2011 Academy Awards she won the award in the same category for the film Inception , also by director Christopher Nolan. For the latter, she also won the Broadcast Film Critics Association 's Critic's Choice Award and the BAFTA Award. At the Satellite Awards 2010 she was nominated twice for Inception and Iron Man 2 . Between 1999 and 2011 she was nominated six times for the CAS Award of the Cinema Audio Society .

Hirschberg lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her wife and two children .
