Lord William Paulet , GCB (born July 7, 1804 in Andover , Hampshire , England , † May 9, 1893 in St. James's Square , London ) was a British field marshal who took part in the Crimean War and was adjutant general from 1865 to 1870 held the highest offices in the army.

Life

Family origins, officer training and Crimean War

Lord William Paulet was one of eight children and the fourth son of Charles Paulet, 13th Marquess of Winchester and his wife Anne Andrews. As the younger son of a marquess , he used the courtesy address Lord . His eldest brother John Paulet inherited the title of 14th Marquess of Winchester after his father's death in 1843 .
