Louis Ferdinand Michelmann , since 1871 by Michelmann , (born March 13, 1817 in Zerbst , † September 15, 1892 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister Gottlieb Michelmann (1780–1858) and his wife Christiane, née Kühne (1789–1863). The later Lieutenant General Guido Michelmann (1823–1898) was his younger brother.

Military career

Michel man initially received private lessons in Berlin and entered on March 16, 1834 Fusilier in the 20th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on July 16, 1835, and to Second Lieutenant on November 9, 1836 . From March 29, 1840 to April 1, 1841 he was in command of the 3rd Combined Reserve Battalion. Further commands followed with the 20th Landwehr Regiment. In the meantime , Michelmann was promoted to captain , from November 12, 1857, he worked as a company commander and was transferred to the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 on July 1, 1860 in the same function . With his promotion to major he came to the Leib-Grenadier-Regiment (1st Brandenburgisches) No. 8 to Frankfurt (Oder) and was appointed commander of the 2nd battalion on February 10, 1863. Michelmann led this association in 1864 during the war against Denmark in the storming of the Düppeler Schanzen and in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battle of Königgrätz . For his services Michelmann was awarded the Order of the Crown III. Class awarded with swords and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross.

After the peace treaty he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent from October 30, 1866 , and on July 21, 1868 he was commanded to lead the 3rd Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 50 in Poznan . With a patent from July 3, 1868, he was promoted to colonel on July 23, 1868 . On October 10, 1868, Michelmann was entrusted with the management of the regiment and finally appointed commander on February 25, 1869. In this capacity he led the regiment in the war against France in the battle of Weissenburg in 1870/71 , was wounded near Wörth and took part in the siege of Paris . He received both classes of the Iron Cross and was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on June 16, 1871 by Wilhelm I after the Peace of Frankfurt . At the same time he was promoted to major general, Michelmann was appointed commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade in Danzig on March 22, 1873 .
