Louis Friedrich Joachim Hans Freiherr von Lützow (born September 18, 1831 in Schwerin , † December 5, 1882 in Danzig ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Louis was the son of the Mecklenburg State Minister Ludwig von Lützow (1793–1872) and his wife Sophie, née Freiin von Brandenstein (1796–1876).

Military career

Lützow attended a grammar school and the grand ducal military educational institution in Schwerin. On April 11, 1849 he joined the Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment and in the same year took part in the battles near Käfertal, Greater Saxony and the Oos during the suppression of the Baden Revolution . By mid-April 1856, Lützow advanced to the position of Premier Lieutenant and on September 10, 1860, was appointed Wing Adjutant to Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II . In this position he was promoted to Rittmeister on September 9, 1861, initially without a patent . Lützow received the patent for this rank at the end of November 1862. On December 22, 1863, he returned to service with the appointment of squadron chief in the 1st Dragoon Regiment. Lützow led his squadron in 1866 during the German War in the battles near Seybothenreuth and Hof .

After the war, on October 10, 1868, he was taken over as major and squadron chief with his regiment in the Association of the Prussian Army . As a regular staff officer , he came on December 11, 1869 to the 1st Brandenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 2 in Schwedt / Oder . With the association Lützow took part in the battles at Vionville , Gravelotte and Le Mans during the war against France in 1870/71 . Awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, after the Peace of Frankfurt on September 26, 1871, he was transferred to the staff of the 2nd Guard Dragoons Regiment in Berlin and rose to lieutenant colonel in early September 1873 . He was then commissioned on October 16, 1873, initially with the command of the Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5 in Düsseldorf under position à la suite , and on February 17, 1874, Lützow was appointed regiment commander. In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1876 and on September 8, 1877 with the Red Eagle Order III. Class awarded with bow and swords. While being promoted to major general, Lützow was given command of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade in Danzig on October 14, 1882 .

He died unmarried of a heart attack while doing his job .
