The Lußhardt is part of the forest area on the right bank of the Rhine between Rastatt and Mannheim , which has also been called the Hardtwald since the time of the Franks (from 300 AD) . The name is a combination of Luß and Hardt .

history

In 1002, Heinrich II exchanged Bruchsal and the Lußhardt for the castle in Worms with Duke Otto of Carinthia . Emperor Heinrich III. then gave the royal court Bruchsal together with the Lußhardtwald on May 6, 1056 to the bishop of Speyer . No towns are mentioned in the deed of gift. It is only to read the general advice that all residents, all houses, mills, fields, meadows, pastures, hunts, waters and fisheries should from now on be the property of the bishops.

King Heinrich IV confirmed the donation in 1063 and extended the border of the Lußhardt area with the Schwetzinger Hardt to Walldorf and Oftersheim .

In 1252, Kislau Castle, located on the eastern edge of the Lußhardt, was given to the Speyer Church with all rights. The official business for the Lußhardt was then carried out for 550 years by the Speyer Monastery.

In the following centuries, the forest area was reduced by clearing for the growing villages, and the outskirts of the forests were used for livestock and for the extraction of litter .

In 1802 the Lußhardt came to the later Grand Duchy of Baden .
