Luanity is a very rare mineral from the mineral class of the elements, more precisely metals and intermetallic compounds . It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system with the chemical composition Ag 3 Hg and forms flattened grains up to 10 μm in size, which combine to form irregular spherical aggregates . It also forms adhesions with other mercury - silver minerals and silicates .

Etymology and history

Luanheit was first found in 1984 by Shao Dianxin, Zhou Jianxiong, Zhang Jianhong and Bao Daxi in the type locality at Luan He near Chengde in the Chinese province of Hebei . It is named after its type locality.

classification

In Strunz's systematics , Luanheit is counted among the metals and intermetallic compounds, a subgroup of the elements. After the 8th edition , together with belendorffite , lead amalgam , eugenite , gold amalgam , kolymite , moschellandsbergite , paraschachnerite , potarite , mercury , schachnerite and weishanite form a group. In the 9th edition , it forms a subgroup of the mercury amalgam family with eugenite, paraschachnerite, moschellandsbergite and schachnerite.

In the Dana systematics , with lead amalgam, gold amalgam, paraschachnerite, moschellandsbergite, eugenite, schachnerite and weishanite, it forms a subgroup (silver-amalgam alloys) of the metallic elements apart from the platinum metals .

Education and Locations

Luanity is found in deposits that contain gold and other elements. It is associated with gold, lead , zinc , silver amalgams and silicates.

In addition to the type locality, finds from La Rioja in Argentina , Copiapó in Chile , Gonnesa in Sardinia (Italy), Moctezuma in Mexico , near Ouarzazate in Morocco , Sacha in Russia , Košice in Slovakia and Sala in Sweden are known.

Crystal structure

Luanheit crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system with the lattice parameters a = 6.61  Å and c = 10.98 Å as well as six formula units per unit cell . The exact space group is not known.
