Ludolf August Friedrich von Alvensleben (born September 6, 1743 in Alsleben , † February 25, 1822 in Brieg ) was a Prussian major general , commander of the Glatz Fortress and inspector of the Silesian troops.

Life

He was the eldest son of the gentleman on Calbe Johann Friedrich von Alvensleben (1698–1752) and his wife Wilhelmine Auguste Ernestine, née von Erlach (1722–1756). She was the daughter of the court marshal (Anhalt-Bernburg) August Leberecht von Erlach .

Military career

Alvensleben was initially a page with Duke Viktor Friedrich von Anhalt-Bernburg . At the beginning of October 1756 he joined the Guard Regiment of the Prussian Army as a private corporal . During the Seven Years' War he was wounded in the Battle of Hochkirch and taken prisoner. After his exchange, Alvensleben took part in the Battle of Torgau , in which he was wounded in the foot. By October 1771 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant , took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 and received his own company when he was promoted to captain in August 1780 . As a major , Alvensleben was able to particularly prove himself during the First Coalition War in the Battle of Pirmasens and received the order Pour le Mérite for this .

By January 1796 Alvensleben rose to lieutenant colonel and in early February 1796 was commander of the III. Battalions. In January 1798 he became a colonel and in September 1800 he was appointed regimental commander. On December 31, 1804 he was appointed chief of the infantry regiment "von Schierstedt" in Glatz . In this position Alvensleben was promoted to major general on May 20, 1805 with a patent from May 23, 1805. As such, he took part in the Battle of Jena in 1806 , was wounded and made inactive by the surrender of Magdeburg . On November 29, 1807 he was appointed commander of Glatz and from the beginning of February 1808 he was also the inspector of the Silesian troops. With an annual pension of 900 thalers, he was granted his departure on June 3, 1809 .

In mid-September 1809 a military court sentenced him to two years' imprisonment because he had spoken out against the surrender of the fortress in Magdeburg in 1806, but had not prevented it. The generals von Schack , von Tschepe and von Schimonsky were also convicted along with Alvensleben .

At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation, Alvensleben asked King Friedrich Wilhelm III. a re-employment in the army, which this refused. He died in Brzeg on February 25, 1822.

Alvensleben married Juliana von Rabiel on March 20, 1792 in Potsdam . She was the daughter of the lieutenant colonel and later postmaster at Landsberg an der Warthe . Their only daughter Augusta (1793–1871) married the Rittmeister Christoph Bernhard Wilhelm von der Osten (1785–1833).
