Ludwig von Kloeden

Karl Friedrich Ludwig von Kloeden (born February 8, 1822 in Wilsnack , † October 25, 1898 in Berlin ) was the Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Königsberg fortress .

Life

origin

Louis was a member of the noble family of Kloeden . His parents were the major a. D. Ludwig von Kloeden (1769–1829) and his wife Marie Dorothea Katharina, née Möhring (1793–1859).

Career

He went to Potsdam as a cadet on August 28, 1834 , then came to Berlin as a cadet on August 11, 1836 . After his graduation he came on August 9, 1840 as a second lieutenant in the Guard Reserve Infantry Landwehr Regiment. Assigned to the school department from May 14, 1846 to November 26, 1850. During this time he was appointed adjutant and investigative officer of the school department on October 1, 1847. During the mobilization of 1850 he was commanded back to his regiment from November 26, 1850 to February 15, 1851, and on February 15, 1851 he returned to the school department. He was then released from his command on May 22, 1852 appointed adjutant in the 2nd Battalion of the regiment. There he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on October 12, 1852 and at the same time transferred to the Cadet Corps as an adjutant. On November 21, 1855 he was head of department in the cadet house in Potsdam, and on November 21, 1855 he was placed à la suite of the regiment. But on November 22nd, 1856 he was promoted to captain while keeping his command and placed à la suite of the 13th Infantry Regiment . On May 31, 1860, he left the cadet corps and joined the Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 as a company commander . He returned on September 22, 1863 and was entrusted with running the business as a regular staff officer at the Cadet House in Berlin. Promoted to major on April 30, 1864, he was appointed staff officer. He then came to the 31st Infantry Regiment on October 31, 1866 , where he was commander of the 1st Battalion. On March 22, 1868 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel there .

During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War he was transferred to the 71st Infantry Regiment on July 18, 1870 as commander . During the campaign he fought at Beaumont , Sedan and the siege of Paris and the battles at Pierrefitte and Epinay. On September 6, 1870, he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class, and on January 18, 1871, he was promoted to colonel. On March 29, 1871, he was first confirmed as commander of the 71st Infantry Regiment, also for peacetime.

After the war, on March 16, 1872, he was appointed inspector of the infantry schools and a la suite of the 71st Infantry Regiment. On December 1, 1874, he was also given the rank and fees of brigade commander and on January 18, 1875, he was promoted to major general . He was then delegated from September 28, 1875 to October 1, 1878 to represent a member of the Court for Conflicts of Competence . During this time he received on January 20, 1878 the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords, and on February 5, 1878, he was transferred to the 39th Infantry Brigade as a commander. From there he was transferred to the Königsberg Fortress as commander on March 12, 1881 and promoted to lieutenant general on March 30, 1881. On January 14, 1883, he received the Stern Red Eagle Order and was put up for retirement on October 15, 1885, in addition to which he received the Crown Order, 1st class.

He died on October 25, 1898 in Berlin and was buried on October 29, 1898 in the cemetery in Hasenheide .

Kloeden married Ida Weigand (1828-1892) on February 15, 1849 in Potsdam , who was also buried in the Hasenheide cemetery. The couple had several children:
