Louis of La Chevallerie

Karl August Ludwig von La Chevallerie (born October 19, 1813 in Karlsruhe , † March 6, 1884 in Zohlen, Preußisch Eylau district ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Ludwig came from the Chevallerie family originally resident in France . He was the son of August von La Chevallerie (1776-1848) and his second wife Luise, nee Freiin von Breitschwerdt (1789-1829) from the Ehningen family. His father was a Prussian Colonel a. D. as well as knights of the Iron Cross and the Order of St. John .

Military career

Chevallerie joined the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on October 19, 1830 as a three-year-old volunteer . After he had been promoted to Second Lieutenant on February 17, 1833 , he was assigned to the General War School in October 1836 . From October 1, 1838, Chevallerie was a teacher at the division school of the 1st Division and was assigned from here on October 27, 1839 as an educator to the Kulm Cadet House . There he saved a cadet from drowning at the risk of his life. For this Chevallerie was awarded the Rescue Medal on the ribbon on January 26, 1841 . From July 11, 1843 he was then a teacher at the Cadet House and was promoted as such on April 9, 1846 to Prime Lieutenant. In September 1850 he resigned from the troops and was transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment . Chevallerie served here until 1866. First, he was on 24 October 1850 captain and company commander , on September 11, 1858 Major and in June 1859 a battalion commander, and finally on March 17, 1869 Lieutenant Colonel . As such, Chevallerie was transferred to the 7th East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 44 on January 4, 1866, under position à la suite , and charged with the command of the regiment . On April 3, 1866 he was appointed regimental commander and two months later he was promoted to colonel. As such, he took part with his regiment in the German War that began shortly afterwards . He fought at Trautenau and Königgrätz and proved himself particularly as an avant-garde leader at Tobitschau . For this he received the Order of the Crown III on September 20, 1866 . Class with swords.

Chevallerie gave up the regiment on January 8, 1868 under position à la suite and became the commandant of Kolberg . In this position he received the character of major general on July 26, 1870 . Under awarding of the patent of his service degree Chevallerie was added, and on August 15, 1871 the officers of the army at the same time appointed commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade deputy. On February 22, 1873 he was then board the disposition placed under award of the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves.

Chevallerie was also a Knight of the Order of St. John.

family

Chevallerie married on April 10, 1844 in Groß Borken, Ortelsburg district with Ida von Berg (1820-1893). The marriage had twelve children, including:
