Ludwig Karl August Wilhelm von Sohr (born February 25, 1777 in Berlin , † March 28, 1848 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the 4th division .

Life

origin

His parents were the Prussian colonel and commander of the 2nd field artillery regiment Georg Wilhelm von Sohr (* November 30, 1726 - March 30, 1800) and his wife Maria Dorothea Elisabeth, née von Briest (* December 26, 1741; † 6 October 1783). Both parents were buried in the garrison cemetery. His brother Friedrich Georg Ludwig (1775–1845) was also a lieutenant general.

Military career

Sohr was taught at home and came on October 5, 1791 Corporal Corporal in the Infantry Regiment "of Lichnowski" the Prussian army . With the regiment he took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . On February 4, 1795 he became an ensign and on October 6, 1797, second lieutenant . In 1805 he came as adjutant general to lieutenant general von Winning and took part in the battles near Sandau, Wahren and Mirow during the Fourth Coalition War.

Leaving his position as adjutant, Sohr was promoted to staff captain on August 9, 1807 . On August 1, 1810, he became a captain and on April 1, 1812, the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment No. 3 aggregated as Rittmeister . On August 2, 1812, he was transferred to the gendarmerie . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , Sohr was promoted to major on July 6, 1813 and transferred as a commander to the Silesian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment. In August 1813 he was employed by the Silesian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment (No. 10). During the war, Sohr was awarded the Iron Cross II Class for the Battle of the Katzbach and the Cross I Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class for Leipzig . He also fought at Laon and Paris , the battles at Reichenbach, Goldberg, Bunzlau, Rothkirch, Hochkirch and the transition at Wartenburg , and also at Freyburg an der Unstrut, Eisenach, Montmirail , Sezanne and Meaux.

On October 19, 1815, Sohr was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on January 5, 1816, transferred to the 7th Hussar Regiment as commander. There he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1821. On March 30, 1831, he was transferred to the 13th Cavalry Brigade as commander and promoted to major general on March 30, 1832 . On March 30, 1838, Sohr received command of the 4th Division in Stargard and was promoted to Lieutenant General on September 10, 1841. On the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves on October 2, 1841 . With the statutory pension , Sohr was granted farewell on April 9, 1842 . He died on March 28, 1848 in Stargard in Pomerania.

family

Sohr married Bertha Sophie August Friederike Wilhelmine von Luck on April 18, 1838 in Münster (* October 6, 1811 - January 5, 1881), a daughter of Colonel Karl Georg Heinrich von Luck (* May 16, 1772; † October 14 1838). The widow married on January 30, 1857, the chief president Ernst Senfft von Pilsach .
