life and work

Vasilek studied conducting at the Academy múzických umění and another in musicology at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University , both in Prague.

From 1998 to 2009 he headed the Foerster Association for Chamber Singing , with which he also took part in a number of international choir competitions and achieved first places in 2003 in Klaipėda, Lithuania, and in Vienna in 2006 . From 2005 to 2007 he was also the second choirmaster of the Opera Choir of the Prague National Theater , with whom he rehearsed several operas - Veidl's Die Kleinstädter , Donizetti's Don Pasquale , Smetanas Hubička and Mozart's La clemenza di Tito .

2007 Vasicek has as main choirmaster of the Prague Philharmonic Choir ( Czech Pražský filharmonický sbor ) committed an ensemble occurring worldwide for classical music in the concert hall and opera. His tasks include rehearsing all the works that are performed by the choir and conducting his own choir concerts. The choir works regularly with major orchestras - for cantatas, oratorios and large choral orchestral works - such as the Czech Philharmonic , the Staatskapelle Dresden , the Berlin Philharmonic , the Vienna Symphony , the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra . The conductors who signed the choir include Daniel Barenboim , Jiří Bělohlávek , Christoph Eschenbach , Manfred Honeck , Fabio Luisi , Zubin Mehta and Sir Simon Rattle . Since 2010 the choir has appeared regularly in opera productions at the Bregenz Festival , both at play on the lake and in new productions in the Bregenz Festival Hall. Much praise - “as a playful and vocal accompaniment to the colorful stage spectacle” (Volksblatt Liechtenstein) - was given for the choir's performance, especially for Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann (director: Stefan Herheim , 2015) and Faccios Amleto (director: Olivier Tambosi , 2016).

Recordings by the Prague Philharmonic Choir under Vasilek's direction have been released by Deutsche Grammophon , Naxos , Neos , OehmsClassics and Supraphon . The vocal ensemble also works regularly with the radio stations WDR , Bayerischer Rundfunk and Český rozhlas .

In 2010 the musician put together a jazz vocal ensemble and accompanied Bobby McFerrin at a series of concerts in the Czech Republic. In the same year he founded the Martinů Voices chamber choir , which is primarily dedicated to the interpretation of choral works from the 20th and 21st centuries. This ensemble has performed under Vasilek's direction at music festivals such as the Prague Spring and the Concentus Moraviae and has been invited to CD recordings several times, including by Supraphon .

Lukáš Vasilek has also conducted concerts with symphony orchestras from Hradec Králové , Budweis , Pilsen and Teplice .
