Luka Ivanušec [lûːka iʋanǔʃets] (born November 26, 1998 in Varaždin ) is a Croatian soccer player who has been under contract with the first division club Dinamo Zagreb since August 2019 . The midfielder has been a Croatian international since January 2017 .

Career

Luka Ivanušec, who was born in Varaždin , began his football training at NK Novi Marof in the small town of the same name before joining the youth department of NK Varaždin in 2010 . Five years later he switched to the offspring of NK Lokomotiva Zagreb . On December 20, 2015 (21st matchday) in the 3-0 away win against NK Slaven Belupo , the 17-year-old made his debut in the top Croatian league when he was in the 85 minutes into the game for Josip Ćorić was substituted on. This was his only appearance for the first team in the 2015/16 season . In the following season 2016/17 he established himself as a regular in midfield of the Lokosi . On December 3, 2016 (18th matchday), he scored his first league goal in a 4-1 away win against Cibalia Vinkovci . He completed 22 league games this season, in which he was able to record one goal and two assists. In the next 2017/18 season , he scored once in 21 league appearances and prepared four more goals. His breakthrough came in the 2018/19 season , in which he scored six goals and made five assists in 31 league games.

After playing three league games in the 2019/20 season, Ivanušec moved to the top club Dinamo Zagreb on August 19, 2019 . The city rival paid him a transfer fee of three million euros and provided him with a five-year contract. He made his debut on August 31, 2019 (7th matchday) in the 0-1 away defeat against Hajduk Split . As a result, he started regularly for Dinamo. On November 6, 2019, he scored the first time for his new club in the 3-3 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk .

National team

Luka Ivanušec took part with the Croatian U17 national team in the 2015 U17 World Cup in Chile , where he played in five games and scored one goal. With the U19 , he took part in the 2016 U19 European Championship in Germany , where he played all three group games. In total, he made three international matches for this selection, in which he scored one goal.

In September 2017 Ivanusec debuted for the U21 . With this selection he took part in the 2019 European Under-21 Championship in Italy and San Marino , where he was used in all three games. In total, he completed 19 international matches for the U21s, in which he scored five goals.

On January 11, 2017 Ivanušec made his debut in a 5-2 defeat after extra time in a friendly cup against Chile for the senior national team when he was substituted on for Franko Andrijašević in the closing stages of regular time . He was also considered three days later against China and scored his first goal in that game.
