Bruno Petković (born September 16, 1994 in Metković ) is a Croatian football player who has been under contract with the first division club Dinamo Zagreb since August 2018 . The striker has been a Croatian international since March 2019 .

Club career

youth

Born in the southern Croatian town of Metković, Bruno Petković began playing football for the local club ONK Metković at the age of eight . Three years later he moved to the youth department of the larger club NK Neretva Metković , before joining the well-known Dinamo Zagreb academy in 2007 . Two years later he left this and joined the city rivals NK Zagreb , which he left again a year later in the direction of NK HAŠK , another club from Zagreb. The following season he stood for NK Hrvatski dragovoljac on the field.

Catania Calcio

In the summer of 2012 he moved to Italy in the youth of the first division club Catania Calcio . At Catania he was initially not allowed to play until January 2013 and then to play in the U19 team. At the same time, he was listed in the first team's matchday squad for the first time in the 2-1 home win (22nd matchday) against Fiorentina , but was not included. On May 19, 2013, the last matchday of the 2012/13 season , he made his debut in the top Italian division in a 2-2 draw against FC Turin when he came on as a substitute for Papu Gómez in the closing stages . In the Primavera C he came to 10 missions for the U19 in this season, in which he was able to score three goals.

For the following season 2013/14 he was promoted to the first team and received the shirt number 32. After Catania was able to place in the upper midfield in the previous season, they got into the relegation battle early this season. Petković was often on the bench, but was only taken into account sporadically. That is why he was sometimes used in the U19s, where he scored twice in seven league games. Petković could not prevent the relegation of the first team to Serie B with only four league appearances.

Loans to Varese, Reggiana and Virtus Entella

After he was outside Catania at the beginning of the 2014/15 season , he moved to Varese Calcio on September 1, 2014 on loan for the entire season . Already in his first league game on September 7, 2014 (2nd matchday) in the 2: 4 away defeat against FC Carpi , he scored. Despite this goal, he was unable to establish himself in the starting line-up in the next few games. After only eight league games in which he was able to score a goal, he was ordered back to Catania and immediately loaned to the third division club AC Reggiana . He played his first league game on February 15, 2015 (25th matchday) in a 2-0 home win against US Città di Pontedera , when he came on for Luca Giannone in the closing stages . He scored his first goal on April 8, 2015 (replay of the 24th matchday) in a 1-1 draw against AC Pisa . For Reggiana he came to 15 league games in the second half of the season, in which he scored four goals.

Catania was relegated to Serie C in the 2014/15 season due to match manipulation. Despite this, he was still not considered after his return and loaned to the second division Virtus Entella . He played his first league game on September 15, 2015 (replay of the 1st matchday) in the 0-1 away defeat against Ascoli Picchio . For the first time he scored on September 26, 2015 (5th matchday) in the 2: 4 away defeat against Trapani Calcio , he scored his first goal of the season. At the club from Chiavari he was used as a substitute and at the end of January 2016 he was ordered back to Catania Calcio after 13 league games in which he was able to score a goal.

Trapani Calcio

On February 1, 2016, he switched to second division Trapani Calcio on loan with an option to buy. There he completed his first appearance on February 8, 2016 (25th matchday) in a 2-2 draw against Como Calcio . On April 9, 2016 (35th matchday), he scored twice in the 4-1 away win against FC Modena . In this 2015/16 season he played a total of 34 league games, in which he was able to collect eight goals and eight assists.

On June 22, 2016, the purchase option in the amount of 300,000 euros was activated, with Catania Calcio being guaranteed 25 percent of the future sales proceeds. In the first half of the 2016/17 season , however , the striker only scored three goals in 17 league games.

Bologna FC

On January 12, 2017, Bruno Petković moved to the first division club FC Bologna for a transfer fee of 1.2 million euros . He made his debut on February 4, 2017 (23rd matchday) in a 7-1 home defeat against SSC Napoli . At the Rossoblù he was only used as a rotation player and was used in 12 league games in which he remained without a goal. He retained this status in the following season 2017/18 and again failed to score in nine league games by January 2018.

Loan to Hellas Verona

On January 11, 2018, Petković switched to league rivals Hellas Verona on loan until the end of the season . He played his first league game on January 21, 2018 (21st matchday) in a 3-0 home defeat against FC Crotone . He was often in the starting line-up with the Gialloblu , but did not score a single goal in 16 league games.

Dinamo Zagreb

On August 6, 2018, Bruno Petković moved back to his home country for first division club Dinamo Zagreb in a loan deal with a purchase option . On August 17, 2018 (4th matchday) he made his debut in a 2-1 home win against NK Osijek in the top Croatian league when he came on for Mario Gavranović in the 80th minute of the game . Ten minutes later he scored an own goal. A week later (5th matchday) he scored in a 1-0 home win against NK Lokomotiva Zagreb . He quickly established himself in the starting line-up of head coach Nenad Bjelica and the purchase option of one million euros was activated on January 21, 2019. In this 2018/19 season, he scored nine goals in 25 league games and prepared six more goals.

With four goals and two assists in six qualifying games , he made a significant contribution to reaching the group stage . His strong performances earned him a new five-year contract on September 13, 2019.

National team

On August 13, 2013, Bruno Petković completed his only international match for the Croatian U21 national team in a 5-0 away win against Liechtenstein in the qualifying game for the U21 European Championship in 2015 , in which he scored a goal.

On March 21, 2019, he made his debut in a 2-1 home win against Azerbaijan in the qualifying match for the European Championship 2021 in the senior national team . He scored his first goal in the 2-1 defeat in a friendly international match against Tunisia .
