Magyarpolány [ mɒɟɒrpolaːɲ ] (German deprecated: Polan ) is a Hungarian community in the district Ajka in Veszprém County . It is located seven kilometers north of the city of Ajka . Almost 40 percent of the population belong to the Danube Swabian group .

history

Magyarpolány was first mentioned in 1171 as Polány.

Attractions

In Magyarpolány there are almost a hundred farmhouses of the Bakony Forest . 43 of these preserve the former village image in a listed street, for which the village was awarded the Europa Nostra Prize .

Another well-known cultural monument is the Calvary , which was built at the end of the 18th century . Painted wooden statues are lined up along the 153 steps that lead to the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows . Every year in the week of Pentecost and in the following two weeks a passion play is organized.

Infrastructure

An artists' colony is in operation in Magyarpolány all year round, with workshops ( pottery and graphic artist workshop , theater in a barn, forge , wood carving in a shed, drawing room) in a monumental environment for those interested.
