Maika Monroe Dillon (* 29. May 1993 in Santa Barbara , California , as Dillon Monroe Buckley ) is an American actress and kitesurfer .

Life

Maika Monroe was born as Dillon Monroe Buckley in Santa Barbara, California as the daughter of sign interpreter Dixie and construction worker Jack Buckley. However, she later changed her first name to "Maika", as she is generally known to the public with this. Monroe started kitesurfing at the age of 13 because her father was also a kiteboarder.

Monroe made her acting debut in 2009 in an episode of the US CBS - TV series Eleventh Hour - use in the last second . She left Santa Barbara at the age of 17 and went to Cabarete in the Dominican Republic to devote herself to professional kitesurfing.

After returning to the United States, Monroe turned back to acting and was seen in the 2012 thriller At Any Price - At Any Price with Dennis Quaid . This was followed in the same year in further appearances in the films Bad Blood and Flying Monkeys and in 2013 in the films The Bling Ring with Emma Watson and Labor Day with Kate Winslet . She also appeared in the 2014 action thriller The Guest and in the horror film It Follows , which premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival and was released in cinemas in 2015. She also took on a role in the film Echoes of War , which was shown at the Dallas International Film Festival in April 2015 .

In April 2015 it was announced that Monroe had taken on the role of Patricia Whitmore in Roland Emmerich's film Independence Day: Wiederkehr , which was played in Independence Day by Mae Whitman as the little daughter of President Thomas J. Whitmore . The film was released in German cinemas in July 2016 . In 2017, Monroe played a role in The Secret Man as the daughter Joan of Liam Neeson's character Mark Felt.

In 2018 she can be seen alongside Chloë Grace Moretz in Neil Jordan's The Widow and in the Netflix science fiction film Tau with Gary Oldman and Ed Skrein . She also starred alongside Bill Skarsgård in the thriller Villains and Shia LaBeouf in the drama Honey Boy . Other film projects include the thriller Stockholm and The Education of Fredrick Fitzell with Dylan O'Brien, which are currently in production .
