Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid can be seen in the leading roles . The film was nominated for a Golden Lion at the 69th Venice Film Festival and was later shown at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival . The film was released in US cinemas on April 24, 2013 and opened in German cinemas on November 14, 2013.

Henry Whipple worked hard and built his father's farm into a profitable business. On the one hand, Henry is looking forward to retirement, on the other hand, he would like to lead the farm to number one in Iowa , because his line of business is "expand or die". For this he needs the support of his son Grant, who, however, decides to leave Iowa to explore the world. All hope now rests on Henry's younger son Dean, who, however, has little interest in taking over the family business and dreams of one day becoming a successful racing driver . When Henry tries to let him in on the secrets of farming, the latter confronts his father with his ideas about the future. During an official investigation, the parental company is the focus of a police investigation and the Whipples are accused of doing dubious business. The family is in danger of losing their property. This is how Florian Tritsch from MovieMaze.de judges : "The film by Ramin Bahrani shines with an excellent cast and its great basic idea that the American farm industry is not romantically glorified, but rather to show it as a tough branch of industry.
