Malolos City ( Tagalog Lungsod ng Malolos ) is a Filipino municipality (Component City) and capital of Bulacan Province , in Administrative Region III, Central Luzon . According to the 2015 census, Malolos City had 252,074 residents who lived in 51 barangays . It is classified as a third income class community in the Philippines and as urbanized .

Malolos City neighboring communities are Guiguinto and Bulacan in the east, Plaridel in the north, Calumpit in the northwest, Paombong in the west and Manila Bay in the south . The topography of the city is characterized by the plains of the central Luzon lowlands.

In Malolos City, the First Philippine Republic was constituted in the Immaculate Conception Cathedral-Basilica in 1899 , the first president of which was Emilio Aguinaldo . Almost all major revolutionaries visited Malolos City at this time. The most important educational institution is the Bulacan State University .
