Manfred Oesterle (born April 24, 1928 in Stuttgart-Möhringen ; † October 7, 2010 in Stuttgart ) was a German painter , graphic artist , caricaturist and sculptor .

Life

Manfred Oesterle was born in Stuttgart in 1928 as the son of a master painter. From 1946 to 1951 he studied painting under Professor Hermann Sohn at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . As early as 1948 he was able to record professional success in the first satirical post-war magazine " Das Wespennest ", founded by Werner Finck and Thaddäus Troll . Since 1952 he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist. His first study trip took him to Spain and France. From 1952 to 1955 Oesterle worked as a caricaturist for the “ Nebelspalter ”, Rorschach / Switzerland. During this time, drawings for the “ Südwestdeutsche Illustrierte Wochenzeitung ” also fall .

From 1955 to 1967 Oesterle was a permanent employee and member of the editorial team of “ Simplicissimus ”, Munich . With 223 title pages, he was the most frequently printed draftsman of the internationally renowned satirical magazine. His technically and intellectually outstanding caricatures have also appeared for many years in " Spiegel ", " Zeit ", " Stern ", " Quick ", " Focus ", " Süddeutsche Zeitung ", " Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung ", " Südwestpresse ”and“ Our Money ”.

He appeared on television as a "quick draftsman" for the entertainment program "In the circle of mockers", Hessischer Rundfunk , Frankfurt and at the Süddeutscher Rundfunk , Stuttgart in the program "Celebrities under the hammer".

Oesterle impressed with its immensely broad spectrum. His keen observation skills and his downright eidetic memory for people and situations shaped Oesterle's painting and graphics, especially in oil paintings and portraits. Murals and ceiling pictures, glass windows and tapestries were designed and executed by him as well as sculptures, reliefs and mosaics. As a master of the line, he always looked for the characteristic in his motifs. His drawings are pointed and humorous, ironic and critical, but never offensive.

From 1962 to 1980 he created advertising graphics, industrial design and two wall calendars for Daimler-Benz AG , each of which was awarded prizes by the Design Center Stuttgart . In Ladenburg , a monument created by Oesterle commemorates the automobile pioneer Carl Benz . The " Aesculap AG " Tuttlingen commissioned him with the presentation of the "history of surgery ". For the " Mineralbrunnen Überkingen-Teinach " he produced commercial graphics, created a. a. a life-size deer and the wall-high mosaic “Water is Life” as well as numerous tapestries that can still be seen in both places today.

Oesterle has found inspiration for his free painting since his student days, especially in southern Europe. Countless pictures and sketches were made in Spain and France. But the focus of his work has always been on people. Portraits, nudes and studies occupied him all his life. His work has been shown in exhibitions around the world. Oesterle was particularly proud of these individual exhibitions: Wilhelm-Busch German Museum for Caricature and the Art of Drawings (1970), Hanover Olaf-Gulbransson-Museum (1991), Tegernsee Olaf-Gulbransson-Museum , Satirica x 3 (1999), Tegernsee

Oesterle lived and worked with his wife and three children in Stuttgart-Möhringen.
