Manuel von Senden (born November 11, 1953 in Plauen ) is a German character tenor . He also made a name for himself in the GDR as a singer with the rock band electra and as a songwriter .

Life

Manuel von Senden was born in Plauen in 1953 as the son of a singer and an opera director. From 1973 to 1977 he studied piano and composition in Leipzig, but did not complete his studies with an exam. From 1976 to 1978 he was the singer of the hard rock- oriented band GRH-Projekt, in 1978 he switched to the rock band Electra as a singer, keyboard player and percussionist . With them he recorded a total of five albums until he left the band in 1989. Well-known songs like never before and a thousand and a feeling come from him .

After an appearance in Gunther Emmerlichs show Showkolade where Senden sang an operatic aria, there was the first requests from opera houses. After leaving Electra in 1989, he took singing lessons from Johannes Kemter, who had already taught Peter Schreier and Klaus Gerber , and received an engagement at the Dresden Semperoper . There he initially took on smaller roles and Comprimario roles and was a permanent member of the ensemble until 1994, when he was exposed as an unofficial employee in the Ministry for State Security and the related dismissal. He has been part of the Graz Opera ensemble since 1994 and has lived in Austria ever since .

Electra founder Bernd Aust ruled out further joint appearances of the band with von Senden due to his activity as IM in 2009 on the occasion of the band's 40th stage anniversary .

In 2015/16 Manuel von Senden took on the role of Emperor Altoum in Turandot by Giacomo Puccini as part of the Bregenz Festival . In 2019 he left the ensemble of the Graz Opera as a permanent member, but will continue to be a guest there in the 2019/20 season.

The actress and singer Dana Golombek is his half-sister.
