Marc Hoffmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marc Hoffmann (born August 1, 1973 in Plettenberg ) is a German sex offender and murderer . It was in June 2005 because of sexual abuse and murder of two children to a life sentence with subsequent preventive detention condemned. In addition, it cannot be completely ruled out that Hoffmann is responsible for further sexual crimes and murders that have not yet been clarified.

Life

Childhood and youth

Marc Hoffmann was born the son of a former seaman and a nurse in Plettenberg in the Sauerland . He grew up as an only child in Plettenberg before the family moved to the small village of Nuttmecke near Attendorn in 1980 , where he and his parents shared a house with his grandparents from then on.

Hoffmann was during his school years due to its strong preponderance, its X-legs and a speech disorder the teasing exposed by classmates and was an outsider.

After finishing primary school, Hoffmann attended secondary school. His school performance was below average, which is why he had to repeat a class in both elementary school and secondary school. At the age of 16, Hoffmann dropped out of secondary school after completing eighth grade.

Adulthood

After dropping out of school, Hoffmann was unemployed for three years, and from 1992 onwards he worked for eleven months as a guard at the Attendorn building yard . Hoffmann increasingly spent his free time playing first-person shooters . He also developed a taste for violence and horror films around this time. Hoffmann discovered his sadistic tendencies and began to torture and kill frogs and mice that he caught himself.

In 1993 Hoffmann did his military service in the Bundeswehr. After completing his military service, Hoffmann returned to Nuttmecke, where he was temporarily active in the local neo-Nazi scene, but only remained a follower . At the age of 20, he had a relationship with a young woman from a neighboring town who gave birth to a daughter he was born in 1994.

Attempted rape and charges

Hoffmann first appeared as a sex offender in February 1994 when he tried to rape a 17-year-old hitchhiker in a remote forest . Because Hoffmann confessed and also had no previous convictions , he was certified in the course of the following court process with a “positive social prognosis”, so that the two-year prison sentence was suspended. His girlfriend separated from him as a result of the lawsuit.

In 1995 Hoffmann moved from Nuttmecke to Bremerhaven with his parents and grandparents . He took his daughter with him. A short time after moving, the father died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease . After the death of his father, Hoffmann began training as a gas and water fitter. However, he failed the final examination twice and then dropped out. Hoffmann then worked for the German Red Cross as a paramedic at major events for five years . During this time he met his future wife, whom he married soon after.

From 2000 Hoffmann worked for a security company in Bremerhaven, for which he checked tickets in buses . During this time, Hoffmann was accused of raping a 17-year-old, whom he is said to have met while working on a bus. However, these proceedings were discontinued due to a lack of evidence.

In 2002 his wife gave birth to a daughter. The marriage fell into a crisis because his wife suspected him of infidelity. Hoffmann has always had a great passion for driving the car aimlessly over long distances, presumably to relieve emotional tension. This is why his wife complained more and more about the very high monthly petrol expenses. She also suspected her husband of regularly going to Bremerhaven's “baby street prostitute ”.

In June 2003, Hoffmann lost his job at the Bremerhaven security company and was unemployed from then on, which increased his aimlessly driving around. His wife separated from him in spring 2004 and moved out of the apartment with their daughter, while Hoffmann stayed there with his older daughter.

Murders

On May 6, 2004, Hoffmann met eight-year-old Levke S. waiting in front of her parents' house in the Altenwalde district of Cuxhaven when he was driving around aimlessly in his car. He lured the girl into his car with false claims and dragged her into a forest, where he sexually assaulted the child and then strangled her with a cable tie . After the murder of the girl, Hoffmann reburied the body several times before he believed he had found a safe hiding place for the remains in the immediate vicinity of his home town of Attendorn. Levke's now skeletonized corpse was discovered by a mushroom picker at the end of August 2004. Unimpressed by the large manhunt that was now beginning for Levke's murderer, Hoffmann was apparently still looking for new victims. On October 30, 2004, during one of his aimless tours, he met eight-year-old Felix W. from Neu Ebersdorf in the Rotenburg district , who was out on his bike. Like Levke, Hoffmann lured the boy into his car and drove into a forest. After waiting for darkness to set in, Hoffmann went on the child. He then strangled the boy with his bare hands and threw the body into the Geeste River near Bremerhaven. The corpse was only found on January 7th by police divers "tied up as a package" in the river after a corresponding tip from Marc Hoffmann, who had since been arrested and confessed.

Arrest, trial and conviction

Marc Hoffmann was arrested on the evening of December 8, 2004 in connection with the murders of Levke and Felix. On the same day he confessed to Levke's murder. On January 7, 2005, he also confessed, through his lawyers, to the murder of Felix. On May 9, 2005 the trial against Hoffmann was opened before the Stade Regional Court .

Levke's family appeared as joint plaintiffs in the trial. Hoffmann was silent during the entire process. All of his statements were read out by his lawyers.

On June 29, 2005, the Stade Regional Court sentenced Marc Hoffmann to life imprisonment for the murder and sexual abuse of the two children. Because the guilt was also found to be particularly serious , a subsequent preventive detention was ordered for Hoffmann. It is therefore possible that Marc Hoffmann will never leave prison again.

The chairman of the jury chamber , Berend Appelkamp , justified the judgment with the fact that Hoffmann had "inflicted unimaginable suffering on others". Hoffmann accepted the judgment without any noticeable emotion.

Marc Hoffmann is currently serving his life imprisonment in the Oldenburg correctional facility .

personality

Because of his mother's character, described by contemporary witnesses as very resolute , who is said to have treated him “like a raw egg” , Hoffmann is now increasingly seen as a mother's boy in retrospect . Contemporary witnesses also usually describe him as a less intelligent " ruffian " with little empathy .

With regard to his first sexual experiences, Hoffmann is seen as a “late bloomer”, especially since in his youth, unlike his peers, he could hardly establish ties to the opposite sex. The fact that Hoffmann was born with only one testicle was certainly a major reason for his inhibitions. In this context, he increasingly consumed pornography as an adolescent .

In the course of expert reports prepared after his arrest, Marc Hoffmann was classified as “not mentally ill” and therefore as “ fully culpable ”. According to these reports, Hoffmann is neither sadistic nor pedophile . In this regard, the experts came to the conclusion that Hoffmann had offended children primarily because they were comparatively easy victims for him. In addition, Hoffmann was attested a "massive lack of emotionality and compassion" during the process.

Possible further crimes of Hoffmann

With regard to possible further crimes committed by Marc Hoffmann, the murder of 10-year-old Adelina in Bremen in June 2001, which remains unexplained, has been and is still being considered. In this regard, Marc Hoffmann, who has meanwhile been sentenced to life imprisonment, was brought to the site of the girl's body by officials in September 2005 . This measure was intended to induce Hoffmann to also confess the murder of Adelina. However, Hoffmann has not confessed to this murder to this day. However, he is said to have confessed to a cellmate.

Furthermore, Hoffmann is said to have confessed to six other sexually motivated murders to a fellow prisoner. According to media reports, there are two children in East Germany, two hitchhikers and two older women. Hoffmann later stated that he had told the inmate about this, but that everything was made up.

The murder of eight-year-old Johanna from Ranstadt-Bobenhausen in Hesse , which had not been resolved for many years and who disappeared on September 2, 1999, has also been linked to Marc Hoffmann at times. The girl's body was found seven months later. On October 26, 2017, it was announced that a partially confessed suspect had been arrested in the murder case Johanna. Hoffmann is therefore eliminated as the perpetrator.

During his pre-trial detention , Marc Hoffmann is said to have hinted at the murder of an old woman in his home village. Because an 86-year-old woman actually disappeared in Attendorn in 1994 without a trace, Hoffmann is still associated with this hitherto unsolved criminal case.

Marc Hoffmann was also increasingly associated with the so-called school camp murders , which remained unexplained for a long time. However, this could be assigned to another perpetrator in 2011.

In Oldenburg prison, Marc Hoffmann also confessed to an expert that he had raped two women.

Others

According to the police, in the case of Marc Hoffmann, the fact that he chose both girls and boys as victims is a criminal feature.

The authorities investigating the murders of Levke and Felix were accused of investigative mishaps after Hoffmann's arrest. About seven weeks before Felix's murder, there should have been reliable evidence of Hoffmann's perpetration in the Levke case. However, corresponding witness statements should not have been sufficiently taken into account. The police rejected such allegations at the time.

In May 2010, the former spokesman for the Levke Special Commission, Günter König-Kruse, admitted to the Nordsee-Zeitung that Hoffmann had returned to the parking lot where he had thrown Levke's schoolbag and jacket on June 13th, 16th and 29th was filmed by video cameras positioned by the police. That was around four months before Felix disappeared. However, because of these video recordings, a note was only made on November 29th, a good three weeks after Felix's death. In addition, a long-time friend of Hoffmann's is said to have confronted a police officer present there with her suspicion that Levke's murderer could be Hoffmann as part of a silver wedding anniversary. The next day, she made an official statement to the police, especially since she also knew about Hoffmann's previous conviction for rape. The Special Commission did not confirm any of these leaked details.
