Marcel Linke (born April 23, 1981 in Berlin , GDR ) is a German ice hockey player who has been playing for the ELV Tornado Niesky in the Oberliga Ost since 2011 .
Career
Linke learned to play ice hockey in the youth area of the ES Weißwasser and went through all youth teams there, with which he won several German championships in the youth area. As a junior player he was able to attract the attention of the young DEB coaches, so that he was part of the German U16 and U18 squad for two years. He played his first international tournament at the U18 World Championship in Füssen in 1999 (the squad included Dennis Seidenberg and Christian Ehrhoff ). Even then, he was not only able to convince with his defensive and offensive qualities, which his two goals in six games prove.
In the following season he became part of the professional team of ES Weißwasser and was able to contribute 2 assists in 19 games. Linke already counted as a two-way player back then, as he could be used both in defense and in attack. Under coach Weissgerber he was therefore always pushed back and forth between attack and defense, whereby he was never able to exhaust his real capabilities. Therefore, he decided in 2002 to move to the Oberliga in Neuwied . After a very successful year in Neuwied, the call of ES Weißwasser, now renamed Lausitzer Füchse , followed, where Horymir Sekera was now on the gang. From coach Sekera he got a firm commitment for the 2003/04 season to only be used in defense, which should also give him security and encourage him to perform well. The Füchsen then succeeded in being promoted back to the 2nd Bundesliga , as EC Bad Nauheim withdrew for financial reasons and Weißwasser exercised the right to promotion as a successor.
The promotion season was quite successful for Marcel - the Füchse reached the play-offs , but after the season he decided to move to Dresden. In his first season in Dresden he was able to convince as a solid defender who has his strengths especially in the underpowered game and in power play . At the side of Sjarhej Stas , he developed into an absolute top performer of the team, who also knows how to use his goal threat again and again. Linke stayed with the Ice Lions until 2009 before returning to the Lausitzer Füchsen. After the 2011 playdowns, he ended his professional career due to health problems and began commercial training. At the same time, he has since played in the top league for ELV Tornado Niesky .
