The Marion von Schröder Verlag (abbreviated MvS ) was a German book publisher that concentrates on popular fiction , fiction and nonfiction were. Today Marion von Schröder is an imprint of the Ullstein Verlag .

The publishing house was founded in Hamburg in 1935 by Marion Janet von Schröder. The publisher was originally called Verlag für die Frau , but was renamed Marion von Schröder Verlag soon after it was founded , allegedly due to pressure from the National Socialist rulers. Initially, there were mainly editions of ancient classics and translations of sophisticated entertainment literature, for example by Thyde Monnier and Paul Gallico .

The publishing house was managed by Marion Janet von Schröder until 1961 and then sold to the Bertelsmann group, where it was continued as a subsidiary of Sigbert Mohn Verlag with Wolfgang Ehrhardt Heinold as managing director. In 1968 the program was taken over by Bertelsmann and the naming rights went to Econ Verlag in Düsseldorf, where a small program with around 12 annual titles appeared until 1988. In addition to established authors of popular literature (including Desmond Bagley , CC Bergius , Malcolm J. Bosse , Gillian Bradshaw , Madeleine Brent , Mary Higgins Clark , Catherine Cookson , Colin Forbes , Hans Herlin , Erica Jong , Per Olov Enquist , Mary M. Kaye , Anne Rice , Nancy Thayer and Anne Tyler ) also published ambitious series such as MvS Science Fiction & Fantastica or the series Cinemathek - Selected Film Texts published by Enno Patalas .

In 1997 the Econ publishing group merged with the Goethestrasse publishing house , a joint venture between Christian Strasser and Hugendubel to form the Econ and List publishing group . There the label Marion von Schröder , based in Munich, was founded under the direction of Johannes Thiele with titles by Federica de Cesco , Nikola Hahn , Barbara Taylor Bradford , Christine Kaufmann , Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry , Malika Oufkir , Chris Lohner and Kitty Kelly ( Die Royals - Glory and misery of an English family ) was revived.

In 1998 the group was merged by Axel Springer Verlag with Ullstein Verlag. In 2003, Marion von Schröder and Ullstein were sold to the Swedish media company Bonnier , the headquarters were relocated from Munich to Berlin in 2004 and Siv Bublitz took over the management of the publishing house. The authors published by MvS now include Waris Dirie , Kristin Hannah , Nora Roberts ( Children of Sorrows ) and Danielle Steel ( The Snow Dancer ).
