Career

Mark Fayne first played from 2003 to 2006 in the US state of Massachusetts for the high school team of the Noble and Greenough School , in the high school league system of the United States. The US-American, with a wide range of sports interests, was not only active in ice hockey, but also in soccer and lacrosse . In the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fifth round at position 155 by the New Jersey Devils . In the 2005/06 season, his last on the Noble and Greenough School ice hockey team , Fayne was named team captain. He was particularly convincing with his offensive strength and scored 10 goals and 24 assists in 29 games of the regular season . At the end of this season, Fayne was elected to the First All-Star Team of NEPSIHA Division I and was recognized as the most valuable player in the Independent School League .

For the 2006/07 season, the defender began studying at Providence College and went for their ice hockey team, the Providence Friars , in the Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , on the ice. After completing his debut season, in which Fayne had completed all 36 games of the Friars season, he was elected to the all- rookie team of Hockey East. He was also honored as the best defensive player within the team. In December 2007, Fayne won the Mayor's Cup with the team by beating Brown University's ice hockey team , the Brown Bears, 8-0 . At the end of the 2007/08 season he received the team-internal award as the best defensive player of the Providence Friars for the second time in a row , after he had refined his defensive game over the course of the season and used his physical strength more effectively.

In the 2008/09 season, the US-American, now working as an assistant captain, was on the ice in 33 games and ended them with a negative plus / minus balance. With the Friars he won his second Mayor's Cup and was named Internal Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in a row. He shared this award with Matt Taormina . In the 2009/10 season, the defender improved primarily in the offensive game and contributed five goals and 17 assists in 34 games. During the season he was named team captain of the Friars and ended the 2009/10 season as the third-best team-internal scorer. His convincing achievements at Providence College were recognized accordingly at the end of his college career and Fayne was rewarded with four awards. In addition to being named Most Valuable Player of the Year for the Providence Friars , he also received an award for most assists and serving as captaincy. In addition, the American won the trophy for the best internal defensive player of the year for the fourth time in his career, and Fayne shared this award with goalkeeper Alex Beaudry.

In August 2010 he signed an entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils. First he was used in the farm team with the Albany Devils in the American Hockey League , in which he completed 19 games during the season and contributed four points. On November 22, 2010, Fayne was appointed as an emergency call-up , as a so-called emergency nail, in the NHL squad of the New Jersey Devils. On December 15, 2010, the American scored his first NHL goal when he defeated the goalkeeper Ilja Brysgalow with a slap in the game against the Phoenix Coyotes . In the course of the season he established himself in the Devils squad and scored four goals and ten assists in 57 NHL games as the defensive player with the best points within the team. His plus / minus balance of +10 was the best of the entire team.

After four years in New Jersey, he joined the Edmonton Oilers in July 2014 after his contract was not renewed by the Devils. Fayne lost his place in the NHL squad with the Oilers after the 2015/16 season and from then on played mainly for their farm team, the Bakersfield Condors . In December 2017 it was awarded to the Springfield Thunderbirds , who also play in the AHL . After the 2017/18 season, his Edmonton contract was not extended.
