history

Peter Wessel (1973–1984)

The Peter Wessel was laid down on April 22, 1971 under the hull number 212 at Ateliers & Chantiers du Havre in Le Havre and was launched on October 23, 1972. After the takeover by the shipping company A / S Larvik on July 20, 1973 and a tour around Norway for advertising purposes, the ship started the ferry service between Larvik and Frederikshavn on August 19 .

With the exception of a brief outage due to a machine failure in June 1975, Peter Wessel's service time was without major incidents.

Zeeland (1984–1986)

She stayed in service until March 1984 and was then sold as Zeeland to the Dutch Stoomvaart Maatschappij Zeeland (SMZ), to be used between Hoek van Holland and Harwich from April of the same year .

Stena Nordica (1986–1988)

In November 1985, the ship became the property of Stena Line , but remained in service with the SMZ until March 1986. After a stay in the shipyard in Rotterdam , the ferry began service on May 4, 1986 under the name Stena Nordica on the route from Moss via Frederikshavn to Gothenburg .

Marko Polo (since 1988)

In November 1988, Stena Nordica changed to its current operator Jadrolinija as Marko Polo . In 1989 she started working between Ancona , Corfu , Patras , Dubrovnik, Split and Venice . In her first years of service for Jadrolinija, the ferry was also chartered out several times. For example, she was in Hamburg from October 1989 to January 1990 as an accommodation ship for GDR emigrants and was used by the TT-Line on the Rostock – Trelleborg ferry route from January to November 1992 .

On October 24, 2009 the Marko Polo ran aground on a crossing from Rijeka to Bari and was slightly damaged on the hull. The repair took half a year. The ship returned to service on May 24, 2010.

In its 30 years of service for Jadrolinija, Marko Polo changed routes several times. Since 2004 she has been in service between Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Stari Grad, Korčula, Dubrovnik and Bari.
