Peter Markstedt (born January 11, 1972 in Västerås ) is a Swedish former football player . The striker made his career in Sweden, England and Norway. Following his playing career, he worked as an official and coach .

Career

Markstedt began his career with Västerås SK in his hometown, for which he made his debut in 1991 in the competition team. Initially, he joined the club as a defensive player only in second and third class, but with the team under coach Lennart Söderberg at the end of 1996 he was promoted to the Allsvenskan . At the side of Fredrik Giesecke and Stefan Bärlin , he finished third from bottom of the table with the club at the end of the 1997 season . In the subsequent relegation games against BK Häcken , he missed relegation.

In the meantime, however, Markstedt had drawn attention outside of the country's borders and in November 1997, immediately after the end of the season in Sweden, he switched to the English Premier League for newly promoted FC Barnsley . Under coach Danny Wilson , he was denied the breakthrough despite a promising debut in the 1-0 away win against Liverpool in the team around Eric Tinkler , Lars Leese , Darren Barnard and Ashley Ward . He therefore returned to Sweden in 1999 after two years of injuries. At Helsingborgs IF he was supposed to replace Andreas Jakobsson , who was associated with several foreign clubs. Ultimately, the change of competitor did not materialize and for Markstedt remained in the course of the 1999 season, the role of supplementary player. With nine league appearances, he contributed to winning the championship title. In the following season the club loaned him to his first play station in the adult area. At Västerås SK, he shone as a regular goalscorer and led him to fifth place in the table with ten goals this season in the 2000 second division season .

As a dangerous attacker, Markstedt had drawn attention to higher class. Before the 2001 season he joined the Stockholm club Hammarby IF in the Allsvenskan. In the team trained by Sören Cratz around players like Andreas Bild , Kennedy Bakırcıoğlu , Andreas Hermansson , Hans Eskilsson and Jonas Stark , he was a regular straight away and scored five goals this season on the way to the championship. Although he was one of the top five goalscorers in the league in the following season with twelve goals this season, it was only enough for the club to fourth place in the table. In the 2003 season he played only eleven league games.

After he had been introduced in early December 2003 as a playing assistant coach at his home club Västerås SK, but the club could not come to an agreement with Hammarby IF, he moved to Norway to Lyn Oslo shortly before the turn of the year . In the Tippeligaen he ran a season before he terminated his two-year contract prematurely and signed a three-year contract with Västerås SK as a player-coach in November 2004. At the end of the second division season in 2005 , he rose with the club despite his two goals this season in 20 games from the Superettan . At the end of the season he resigned from his coaching position. After a year in the third division, he ended his active career in late 2006.

After the end of his career, Markstedt was promoted to sports director at his home club. He resigned from the position in the summer of the following year. In 2010 he took over the coaching position at the lower class club IK Franke . In June 2011, Markstedt returned to Västerås SK again, taking on the role of assistant coach from Eric Acar , who had recently replaced Kalle Granath as head coach alongside Stefan Bärlin .
