The Marlach is an approx. 10.7 km long body of water III. Order in the Vorderpfalz . It has its origins near Deidesheim and flows into the Floßbach near Dannstadt-Schauernheim .

course

The Marlach feeds a pond on the southern outskirts of Deidesheim. This in turn has two short tributaries, one from the north and the other from the west. In the east of the pond is a drain that runs under the Neustadt – Bad Dürkheim railway line . On the other side, the Marlach then runs eastwards, partly on the Ruppertsberg district, partly on the boundary between Ruppertsberg and Deidesheim. Southeast of Deidesheim it flows under the federal highway 271 through, about 420 m further east takes them from the right waters of Schlohgrabens on. Then it touches the boundary between Niederkirchen near Deidesheim and Meckenheim for a few meters and then flows on to the Meckenheim district. Near the building boundary it bends shortly to the northeast and in this area takes on the Weinbach and the Alte Weinbach from the left . After it has passed Meckenheim in the northeast, it flows again eastwards. It then absorbs water from the pasture ditch from the left and immediately afterwards runs a few meters on the boundary between Meckenheim and Hochdorf-Assenheim , which is also the border between the Bad Dürkheim district and the Rhine-Palatinate district . It changes its direction again slightly to the northeast. First it flows north past Hochdorf-Assenheim, then a little through the town. To the northeast of Hochdorf-Assenheim, it passes the boundary to Dannstadt-Schauernheim . At the entrance to the village, it takes the barrage ditch from the left, continues through the village, where it first takes the Stechgraben from the left , then the Albertgraben (Mittelgraben, Wiesengraben) on the eastern edge of the village. About 220 m east of the village it takes up the Riedgraben from the right and flows 50 m further from the left into the Floßbach .

Surname

The Marlach is the godfather of the nature reserve Marlachwiesen through which it flows . In Meckenheim there is a carnival club called “Meckenheimer Marlach Frogs”, and there are also some hallway and street names at the places that the Marlach touches that refer to them.

Remarks

  1. a b The sources in this regard are not clear (as of August 13, 2019). According to the GeoExplorer (see individual records), the section of water from the mouth of the Marlach into the Floßbach as described here to the mouth into the Isenach carries the river code of the Marlach (2391488), so the Marlach would be the outflow of the Floßbach and not the other way around. The underlying map of the GeoExplorer, as well as others (e.g. LANIS, see individual evidence), however, designate the water as a raft stream.
