Marquez Keith Haynes (alternative spelling: MarQuez Haynes ; born December 19, 1986 in Irving , Texas ) is a native American basketball player . After studying in his native country, Haynes turned professional in Europe and took Georgian citizenship . For his new adopted home, he took part as a national player in the finals of the 2011 European Basketball Championship .

Career

College time in the USA (2005 to 2010)

After attending a high school in his hometown, Haynes moved to Boston College in 2005 , where he played for the Eagles college team, who had moved to the NCAA's Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) . In their first season in the ACC, the Eagles, in which Haynes played together with the later Bundesliga professional Tyrese Rice , won the semifinals of the championship tournament against the renowned Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , but then lost that Final against the Blue Devils of Duke University . In the national NCAA finals they moved into the third round Sweet Sixteen , in which they lost the Wildcats of Villanova University after extra time . This was the farthest advance of the Eagles in this competition since 1994. After you in the ACC 2007 in the semifinals of the championship tournament this time inferior to the Tar Heels, you lost in the second round of the NCAA finals to the eventual semifinalist Hoyas of Georgetown University . Haynes then decided to change college and went back to Texas, where he continued his studies at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).

After changing university, Haynes was not allowed to play championship games for one season in accordance with the regulations of the NCAA. In the 2007/08 season he intervened again for the Mavericks college team . However, the Mavericks were unable to defend their 2008 championship in the less prestigious Southland Conference and did not qualify for the NCAA national finals the following season. Haynes himself, however, was able to increase his personal statistics significantly compared to his time at Boston College and scored the most points and the highest point average of a player in one season in the history of the Mavericks in the 2009/10 season. With an average of 22.8 points per game, he achieved the third highest average of points for a player in the entire NCAA this season and was named "Southland Conference's Player of the Year" 2010. However, Haynes failed in the following summer when trying to get a place in a squad of a team of the highest endowed professional league NBA , which he never succeeded in the summer months of the following years.

Professional career in Europe (since 2010)

After the failed attempt to get a contract in the NBA, Haynes began his professional career in 2010 in the French LNB Pro A with the first division club Élan Sportif from Chalon-sur-Saône . After winning the “Coupe de France” cup competition, they moved into the main round third in the play-off final series for the championship, in which they lost the following two players to record champions ASVEL after an opening win in the first round and were eliminated in the first round . Haynes had meanwhile accepted Georgian citizenship and took part in the 2011 European Championship finals as a national player from his new adopted country , in which the national team qualified for the intermediate round of the top twelve teams after two preliminary round victories in five games. There, however, followed three more defeats and the elimination before the final round. With the Georgian citizenship, Haynes increased his market value in Europe, as he now fell under less restrictive foreigner restrictions for Europeans, and was able to sign a contract in the Spanish ACB league for the 2011/12 season . With the first division club and former play-off participant from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , however, he only achieved 14th place out of 18 teams in the 2011/12 season and clearly missed the final round of the championship.

For the 2012/13 season , Haynes then signed a contract with German first division club Artland Dragons in the basketball division . Like a year earlier with Gran Canaria, they were eliminated after the preliminary round in the European club competition ULEB Eurocup . Even in the national championship, the talented team could not fully exploit their potential and retired after a sixth place in the main round in the first round of the play-offs for the championship against the former runner-up ratiopharm Ulm . Haynes was then signed by the Italian first division club EA7 Armani from Milan , with whom he also played, for the first time, in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague . At the end of December 2013, Haynes moved within Italy to the serial champion Montepaschi Siena.
