Live and act

The act hall of the Vienna Academy

Quadal studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He lived in Vienna for a few years , his subsequent life was marked by numerous study trips throughout Europe, which took him to Germany , England , France and Italy . From 1797–1804 he stayed in St. Petersburg , then spent two years in London and then again in St. Petersburg until his death. He was an honorary member of several art academies in Europe.

Quadal was a very popular portrait and animal painter in his time, who also created genre scenes . He was a classicist who took up suggestions from England. Most of his paintings are also in England and Russia. One of his most interesting pictures shows the members of the Vienna Academy studying nudes. It shows the most important artists of the late 18th century in Vienna, such as Franz Anton Maulbertsch , Friedrich Heinrich Füger , Johann Baptist Lampi or the sculptors Johann Martin Fischer and Franz Anton Fence . Quadal himself has also immortalized himself in the picture.
