Martin Gutzeit (born April 30, 1952 in Cottbus ) is a German clergyman and politician, founder of the Social Democratic Party in the GDR , MdV , MdB , and until 2017 was the state representative for the documents of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR in Berlin.

Life

He is the son of a pastor and trained as an electrician from 1968 to 1970. In 1970 he first worked as a relay mechanic. In 1971 he passed the Abitur at an evening school. He refused to do military service in the National People's Army and worked as a social welfare worker. From 1972 to 1979 he studied theology at the Protestant Language Convict in Berlin . From 1980 to 1982 he was vicar in Berlin-Pankow and from 1982 to 1986 pastor in Schwarz near Neustrelitz . Between 1986 and 1990 he was an assistant at the Sprachenkonvikt in Berlin.

In 1977 he formed a Hegel circle with Markus Meckel . In October 1989 he co-founded the Social Democratic Party in the GDR (SDP), as a representative of the SDP at the Central Round Table of the GDR. In 1990 Gutzeit became a member of the party executive committee of the SPD and a member of the first freely elected people 's chamber . There he was the parliamentary director of the social democratic group and from October to December 1990 a member of the Bundestag .

From 1993 to 2017 he was the Berlin State Commissioner for the documents of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR. He worked as a member of the advisory board of the Federal Commissioner for the Documents of the Ministry for State Security of the former GDR (BStU). On October 8, 1995, together with other civil rights activists from the former GDR, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

Since 1997 he and other founders of the SDP have been warning against alliances with the PDS . Regarding the Brandenburg coalition with the stasi-burdened left, he said:

“The assertion by the left that it broke with the Stasi is not expressed in its personnel decisions. The party understands the art of breaking taboos. She wants to make a career as a normal part of an East German biography socially acceptable. "
