Martin Vollenwyder

Martin Vollenwyder (born October 4, 1953 in Zurich ; entitled to reside in Zurich and Lohnstorf ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP. Liberals ). From 2002 to 2013 he was Head of the Finance Department in the City Council of Zurich .

education and profession

Vollenwyder grew up in the Enge district of Zurich . He attended primary and secondary school in Zurich. After completing his business school diploma in 1974, he studied law at the University of Zurich until 1981 and completed his studies with a licentiate in law (lic. Iur.). After a stay abroad in Paris , he worked in various areas for the major bank Credit Suisse (formerly Schweizerische Kreditanstalt SKA) from 1982 to 2002 , among other things he was secretary to Robert A. Jeker . Most recently Vollenwyder was director and responsible head of department for SMEs and associations.

politics

Vollenwyder began his political career in 1985 as a member of the Zurich City Council , and from 1988 he was a member of the Auditing Commission. He was a member of the local council until 1996. From 1990 to 1994 he headed the FDP parliamentary group in the local council. From 1998 to 2002 Vollenwyder was for the FDP in the Cantonal Council of the Canton of Zurich . At the FDP he was president of both the city of Zurich (1994 to 1996) and the canton of Zurich (1996 to 2000).

In 2002 he stood in the city council elections as a challenger to Elmar Ledergerber (SP) for the office of city president, lost, but was elected as a city councilor. From 2002 to 2013 he was Head of the Finance Department in the City Council of the City of Zurich, and resigned one year before the 2014 general election. Richard Wolff ( Alternative List) was then elected to the city council.

Mandates (selection)

Vollenwyder is a member of the board of directors of Bank Sparhafen Zurich , the building insurance of the Canton of Zurich , of the MCH Group and a member of the board of trustees of the Alfred Escher Foundation. On October 1, 2013, he took over the presidency of the Zurich Adult Education Center and the Eleonoren Foundation, sponsor of the Children's Hospital Zurich , and in January 2014 the presidency of the Tonhalle Society Zurich, the sponsoring association of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich .

Private

Vollenwyder has been married for the second time since 2013 and has three grown daughters from their first marriage. His father Erich Vollenwyder was the organist in the Enge church for 42 years .
