Martin Walther (* around 1687; † October 15, 1763 in Bamberg ) was an art carpenter and cabinet maker .

Life

Walther was mentioned for the first time on the occasion of his marriage on January 16, 1713 to Maria Katharina, the daughter of the court plasterer Johann Jacob Vogel . He became the brother-in-law of the plasterer Franz Joseph Vogel ; the court sculptors Franz Anton Schlott , Johann Peter Benkert and Gottlieb Heymüller .

He is mentioned together with the sculptor Leonhard Gollwitzer in a Stettfeld church bill. He carried out several jobs with him in the Bamberg workshop. Walther worked as an art carpenter in Bamberg and the surrounding area. Several altars are known from his workshop, for example in the Banz monastery and in the upper parish in Bamberg, in Weichenwasserlos , in Hausen near Forchheim , in Breitengüßbach , in Pottenstein or in Teuchatz .

He was also active in Arnstein , Bischberg , Dormitz , Forchheim , Geisfeld , Gößweinstein , Höchstadt an der Aisch , Kirchenbirkig , Neudorf bei Weismain , Rabeneck, Tiefenstürmig , Weilersbach , Zeil am Main , Zentbechhofen and in the Schlüsselau Monastery .
