Martin of Campe
Martin Victor Ascania von Campe (born May 25, 1866 in Bückeburg , † July 26, 1931 in Hanover ) was a German lawyer and governor of the province of Hanover .
Life
Martin von Campe was the son of Karl Heinrich Siegfried von Campe (born March 30, 1818 in Bückeburg; † February 3, 1879 ibid) and Freiin Klara von Uslar-Gleichen (born May 28, 1829 in Hanover; † February 10, 1882 in Ilten ). He was born in Bückeburg, the former residence of the Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe , a few weeks before the surrounding Kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia during the German War and after the Battle of Langensalza and thus became part of the Prussian state as the "Province of Hanover". In this same Prussian province, Martin von Campe went through a civil service career in the administration of the Prussian state and most recently as governor of the province of Hanover for more than 35 years after studying law .
Around 1929, the governor had his portrait drawn by the Hanoverian painter August Heitmüller and presented as a versatile and friendly person. After the demolition of the house where Wilhelm Busch was born in Wiedensahl was prevented in 1927 on the initiative of Friedrich Tewes, he became the first chairman of the Wilhelm Busch Society , which was founded there on June 24, 1930 . Regional church councilor Walther Lampe , Emil Conrad , state syndic Otto Levin and provincial curator Heinrich Siebern were at his side in the work of the board .
On May 12, 1931, von Campe was made an honorary citizen of the Technical University of Hanover .
