Martti Nõmme [ nɣmme ] (born August 7, 1993 in Võru ) is a former Estonian ski jumper .

Career

Nõmme began his international career in junior competitions in February 2009 in Szczyrk, Poland . After he reached third place at the Estonian Championships in Otepää in early 2010 , he started in Örnsköldsvik in August for the first time in the FIS Cup . After a 22nd and a ninth place, he started a short time later in Oslo for the first time in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup , but was disqualified in his first two competitions.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2011 in Otepää , Nõmme reached 41st place in the individual competition and tenth place with the team in team jumping. On November 27, 2011, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup at the team competition in Kuusamo . Together with Illimar Pärn , Siim-Tanel Sammelselg and Kaarel Nurmsalu , he finished twelfth. In the next two Continental Cup jumping in Finnish Rovaniemi he could not prevail again.

In February 2012 Nõmme jumped to 32nd place at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2012 in Erzurum . At the following Team World Cup in Lahti he reached tenth place with the team.

In the summer of 2012, Nõmme was unsuccessful in the FIS and Continental Cups. Also at the Continental Cup in January 2013 in Bischofshofen he clearly missed the points as 40th and 44th. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2013 in Liberec , he was placed 29th on the normal hill. Four weeks later, Nõmme was part of the squad at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme . After he was able to clearly qualify for jumping on the normal hill as 26th in the qualification, he clearly missed the second round in the competition round as 47th. He was also unsuccessful on the large hill as 49th. The 2012/13 season he ended with the start at the Continental Cup in Vikersund , where he was 72nd and 75th and again won no points. He won bronze again at the Estonian Championship in Otepää at the end of the season.

On February 8, 2014 he won his first two points in the Continental Cup as the 29th in jumping in Iron Mountain .

On December 7, 2014, Nõmme survived the qualification of a World Cup jumping for the first time in Lillehammer and then made his debut in an individual World Cup competition on the same day, after he had previously only had two starts in team competitions. He finished jumping as 49th. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , he started in the two individual competitions. He did not qualify on the normal hill, but he did succeed on the large hill and finished the competition 48th.

At the summer COC on August 22, 2015 in Kuopio , he reached the top ten in a Continental Cup competition for the first time. On September 5, 2015, he made his debut in the Summer Grand Prix in Tchaikovsky . After 36th place, he picked up his first Grand Prix point on the following day with 30th place. In the following World Cup season , he did not get past 45th place on the normal hill in Lahti and thus still missed to get his first World Cup points.

In February 2017 Nõmme took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, although he neither had a World Cup start nor scored any COC points in the entire 2016/17 season. As in the previous 2015 edition, he only qualified for the competition on the large hill. In this he finished 44th.

On November 26th, 2017, he finished 39th in the World Cup jumping in Ruka , which was his best World Cup placement to date. In February 2018, he took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time in Pyeongchang . He started in the two individual competitions and also survived the qualification in each case. He finished 47th on the normal hill and 43rd on the large hill . In the summer of 2018, he was 29th in the jumping in Hakuba, Japan, for the first time in three years, when he again achieved Grand Prix points.

After the 2019/20 season, Nõmme ended his career.
