Massive Scar Era is an Egyptian metalcore / folk metal band from Alexandria .

history

The group was launched in 2005. The founding members of the band include the musicians Sherine Amr ( vocals , guitar ), Sarah El-Kasrawy ( bass ) and Suzie Heida ( drums ), of whom only Amr plays in today's line-up of the band. The band currently consists of Sherine Amr, Nancy Mounir ( violin ), Perry Moataz (bass) and Maged Faltas (drums).

The group played the first concert in 2005 in Alexandria . A year later the group won three prizes at the International Music Competition in Alexandria. These were in the categories of best band , best singer and best violinist . The American newspaper The New York Times also interviewed the band in 2006.

Their demo under the title Mascara was released in 2009. That year the group played in Europe for the first time. Massive Scar Era performed at the Sweden Rock Festival 2009. For the first time with a male drummer . In Flames , Kamelot , ZZ Top , Dream Theater , Heaven and Hell , Immortal , Motörhead and Candlemass performed at the festival .

In 2010 the group played at the American Cornerstone Festival a . a. with August Burns Red , Demon Hunter , The Chariot and The Devil Wears Prada . This was followed by the release of their EP Unfamiliar Territories . In June 2011 the group will perform with Acrassicauda at Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles . Further concerts by the band in the USA in New York City and Chicago are planned.

The band's debut album is also scheduled for 2011.

Notoriety

The band first attracted attention by winning the International Music Competition when the band was able to win in three categories. This was followed by band portraits in international music magazines, including the German Heavy Magazine , the Middle East Online Magazine ( United Arab Emirates ), in the Indian version of Rolling Stone and the New York Times . The band is also mentioned in Mark Levin's book Heavy Metal Islam .

The group also worked on the Egyptian film Microphone , which premiered in 2010 and won first prize at the Cairo International Film Festival . This film was also screened at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival . The film was also shown at the International Istanbul Film Festival (2011), the London Film Festival (2010) and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2010). The film was nominated for an award at all three festivals. Microphone won the Golden Tulip in Turkey .

Europe also could make the band attracted attention as the band in Sweden on the Sweden Rock occurred. Later even an appearance at the American Cornerstone Festival followed .

Music and band name

The band started as an all women band. Initially the group played classic metalcore . In the course of time, influences from folk metal were added. Male musicians have also been playing in the group since 2010.

The band name is abbreviated to Mascara. Ma stands for Massive , sca for Scar and ra for Era . The band uses this abbreviation to create a feminine touch.
