In 1579 a Hans Steiger from Sulzau built a chapel on the spot where a wooden hut built by the Moser farmer previously stood. The Gothic statues of the Mother of God and Pope Sixtus - both of which were only made around 1630 - were placed in this chapel.

A letter of indulgence from 1395 is in the parish archive in Wald. Therefore, a church already existed at that time. Ongoing further developments, improvements and restorations follow. The so-called 'witch's bell' weighing around 250 kg - the oldest bell in the Gau from the 14th century - was melted down around 1884. The four new bells all date from 1950.

The plateau on the Falkenstein is the site of a Bronze Age hilltop settlement; Trial excavations took place in 1946. To the east there is a former refugee castle; the wall protecting it to the west is still clearly visible. 250 m north of it is a rampart ("Schlossberg").
