The first documented mention of the church in Eschenau comes from 1394. Lords of Eschenau, who died out in 1160, should have had the castle and a castle chapel at that time.

Today's church stands on a small hill and is visible from afar. The most important parts of the high altar date from 1664. A restoration took place in 1896, as well as in 1951.

During the restoration of the interior in 1982, a well-preserved Gothic Secco painting from the 14th century was discovered. The theme of the painting in the church choir is a formal and iconographically rare representation of the Last Judgment with a world judge with sickle and throwing shovel.

The women's chapel next to the courthouse was built in 1710 by the caretaker Johann Martin Löckher von Cronenkreuz with the help of benefactors. It is octagonal, somewhat modeled on the Loreto Church in Salzburg . 41 angels of various sizes are grouped around the carved Altötting Mother of God, above them the Holy Trinity. The altar is closed by a beautiful spiral grille.

As early as 960, when the noblewoman Rosmout and her husband Regimbert owned property in Taxenbach, a church is said to have already been built here. Whether it was in the same place as today's one cannot be determined. Today's church is elevated above the market in a dominant position.

Archbishop Eberhart II incorporated it into the Chiemsee bishop's table when the Chiemsee diocese was founded. The church remained Chiemsee until 1450. But not much is left of this old Romanesque church. Around 1400 it was rebuilt as a Gothic, three-aisled church with a larger chancel. In 1622 it was badly damaged in a market fire. It was restored, but in 1639 the new vault fell. The cathedral builder Santino Solari then had to use all his skills to preserve the church. In 1903 new windows were added and in 1949/50 it was thoroughly overhauled both inside and out.

Formerly known as the "Botensepplhaus", the house was owned by Josef Bacher jun. Sold to Elisabeth Lackner in 1864. This transferred the house to the market town in 1881 on condition that it be used as a brother house. In 1887 an extension and renovation was made, in 1973 the community hospital of the Sisters of Mercy was closed, and in 1986 the old people's home was moved to a new building. In 1988 it was adapted and inaugurated as a club house.
