On the way from Embach to Maria Ellend you will meet the Ölberg or Kalvarienberg chapel. There are three crosses above. It is quite large and was built by the authority to 'calm the people' after the destruction of the church, but more or less ignored by the people.

The history of the church of 'Empach' goes back to 1344. At least part of the church must have been rebuilt in 1506 because Archbishop Leonhard carried out the inauguration. The high altar dates from 1903 and has the former miraculous image of Maria Ellend in oil on wood in the middle. The image of Laurentius of the church patron can be found on the left side altar.

The bells in the tower are of different ages. The small one dates from 1802, 2 bells were placed in the tower in 1951 and one in 1923.

The story of the 'Capellen zu Unserer Frau im Elendt' goes back to a promise made by Ursula Penninger at Penninghof in Taxenbach in 1552. It says that she rebuilt and erected the 'chapels' - so something similar must have existed beforehand. So it is narrated:

Ursula Penninger had a twelve-year-old, blind daughter who got lost at the Bererenbrocken over there in Embach and was nowhere to be found. In desperation, the mother made the vow, where the daughter was found alive, to build a chapel. On the third day the child was actually found safe and, to the greatest surprise, even now looking up. The joy was great and the Penninger kept her vow.

The rectory was built in 1671, before the current church was built. On the street side, the building has a marble plaque with the coat of arms of Archbishop Gandolph and the year 1671.

Since there was enough space available, the royal traid box was moved there in 1725 and the attic room was adapted to it. Between 1950 and 1956 there was a massive interior construction. Running water was connected and central heating installed to make the building more homely.

The foundation stone of today's church in Lend was laid in 1673 by the pastor of Taxenbach. There used to be a wooden chapel at the Handlwirt, the exact date of its construction is not known. However, it is said that this chapel was renewed before 1622.

In 1674 the new church was inaugurated by Archbishop Max Gandolph and the patron saint of the country, St. Consecrated to Rupert. The ceiling of the flat arched vault was adorned with rich Rococo painting in 1907. The large ceiling painting shows the Assumption of Mary. The high altar is from 1760 and was set up by the carver and sculptor Daniel Mayr from Saalfelden. The tabernacle was brought from Embach to Lend in 1784.
Three bells were cast for Lend in 1889. In 1916 the 'big one' and the 'little one' were removed, brought to Budapest and melted down. After the 1st World War the church received the missing bells (but new ones) which were removed, melted down and used for war material in the 2nd World War (1942). In 1950 3 new bells cast from tin bronze were placed in the tower.
