Matic Skube (born February 23, 1988 in Kranj ) is a Slovenian ski racer . He specializes in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

biography

Skube took part in the Trofeo Topolino in 2001 and took third place in the slalom. From December 2003 he took part in FIS races . At the European Youth Olympic Festival 2005 in Morgins / Les Crosets , he won the silver medal in the slalom and the bronze medal in the giant slalom. From March 2006 he was used in the European Cup . On November 12, 2006 Skube made his debut in the World Cup ; at the slalom in Levi , however, he could not qualify for the second run, as well as in four other missions.

In January 2007 Skube won the silver medal in slalom at the Universiade in Bardonecchia , and two months later he was junior world champion in the same discipline in Flachau . He qualified for the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide , where he finished 22nd. However, since only the first 15 places are counted at the end of the season, he remained without World Cup points. After he had fallen behind in terms of performance in the 2007/08 season, but was the first Slovenian champion in slalom, he was able to improve again the following winter.

In the 2009/10 season, Skube regularly performed well in the European Cup. On February 9th, he celebrated his first victory at this level in the Méribel slalom . Five weeks earlier, on January 6th, he had won his first World Cup points as 23rd in the slalom in Zagreb . This was enough to qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics. In the Olympic slalom race in Whistler-Blackcomb , however, he was eliminated in the first run.

Skube achieved his best World Cup result so far on January 9, 2011 with twelfth place in the Adelboden slalom . At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was 26th in the giant slalom, while he was eliminated in the slalom after the 24th intermediate rank in the second round.
