Matorec ( Matorek ) is an East Timorese Suco in the Turiscai administrative office ( Manufahi municipality ).

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Matorec had an area of ​​25.98 km². Now there are 24.68 km². The Suco is in the east of the Turiscai administrative office. To the north are the Sucos Fatucalo and Lessuata , northwest of the Suco Liurai , west of the Suco Beremana and south of the Suco Foholau . In the southeast Matorec borders on the administrative office Fatuberlio with its Suco Caicassa and in the east on the administrative office Laclubar with its Suco Fatumaquerec belonging to the municipality of Manatuto . The river Limetain , a source of the southern Laclós , has its source in the west of Matorec . The Clere flows along the eastern border , which is also fed by several tributaries from Matorec. It is a tributary of the Clerecs .

There are no major roads connecting the Suco with the outside world. For example, for the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007, the ballot boxes had to be brought to and from the polling station in the Suocs headquarters by helicopter. To the west of the Limetain lies Orluli ( Oroluli ), the largest settlement in Suco. There is also a primary school and a medical station here.

The four Aldeias Fatu Hei , Foho Tu , Orluli and Rimori are located in the Suco .

Residents

The Suco has 457 inhabitants (2015), of which 244 are men and 213 women. The population density is 18.5 inhabitants / km². There are 64 households in the Suco. Over 88% of the population state Mambai as their mother tongue. 8% speak Tetum Prasa , small minorities speak Habun , Idalaka or Idaté .

history

In 1978 the Indonesians attacked Matorec and other sucos in the administrative office. Houses and granaries were burned down. The inhabitants fled south towards Alas and Fatuberlio . 90 died of hunger and disease. 150 of them were caught and brought back.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Paul de Araújo was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Carlos de Jesus .
