The Matsumoto Yamaga FC ( Japanese 松本 山 雅 フ ッ ト ボ ー ル ク ラ ブ , Matsumoto Yamaga Futtobōru Kurabu ) is a Japanese football club from Matsumoto .
history
In 1965, the central figures of the Nagano Prefecture's national soccer team founded the Yamaga Soccer Club , an amateur soccer club . The name Yamaga is the name of the cafe that the founding members often went to. Since the nineties, the club has played in the Hokushin'etsu Football League ( 北 信 越 フ ッ ト ボ ー ル リ ー グ , Hokushin'etsu Futtobōru Rīgu , or HFL for short) as a famous football club in Nagano.
In 2001 the new stadium, known as Alwin ( ア ル ウ ィ ン , Aruwin ) was built, which would later become the club's home stadium. In 2004 the NPO Alwin Sports Project ( ア ル ウ ィ ン ・ ス ポ ー ツ ・ プ ロ ジ ェ ク ト , Aruwin Supōtsu Projekuto ) was founded with the aim of reaching the J-League . The Yamaga Club became a base of the project and has changed its name to Matsumoto Yamaga FC .
In the 2007 and 2008 seasons, the club won the 1st Hokushin'etsu Football League, but could not prevail in the JFL qualification. Participation in the Emperor's Cup ended in the fourth round with an 8-0 loss to Vissel Kobe .
In 2009 they missed qualification for promotion to the JFL in the league, but surprisingly beat the J. League first division club Urawa Red Diamonds in the second round of the Emperor's Cup. By winning the Shakaijin Cup, participation in the regional qualification was still possible and made it into the JFL for the 2010 season.
Due to the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 , it was the locally based club Sony Sendai impossible to play the season to the end, whereby Yamaga succeeded in fourth place and rose for the 2012 season in the J. League Division 2 .
At the end of the 2014 season, the second place and thus the promotion to the J. League Division 1 could be achieved for the first time . Despite the outstanding number of passengers in the away games, it was only enough for 16th place in the 2015 season, which meant an immediate return to the J. League Division 2 .
After a strong 2016 season, it was enough for 3rd place and thus for qualification for the promotion playoffs. There, however, the semi-final game against Fagiano Okayama was lost 2-1 at home Alwin.
