Matthias Holst (born June 19, 1982 in Husum ) is a German football player . The right foot, mainly used in central defense , has spent his career so far mainly with clubs in the third division regional league and later the third division , but also made a total of 48 appearances in the second division for SC Paderborn 07 and Hansa Rostock .

Career

Beginnings in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Rostock

At the beginning of his career, the two-footed central defender Holst went through the youth teams of the Schleswig-Holstein clubs Rödemisser SV , Bredstedter TSV and Heider SV . He moved from Heide to Hamburger SV in 1999 , for whose second men's team he made his debut in the Regionalliga Nord on January 30th of the 1999/2000 season and made 21 regional league appearances in the 2002/03 season before joining in the summer of 2003 joined FC Hansa Rostock .

Also in Rostock Holst was only used in the reserve team and scored for this in the seasons 2003/04 and 2004/05 of the Oberliga Nordost-Nord five goals in 49 missions, A with which he also had a share in the Oberliga championship 2004/05 of the Hanseatic League would have. In the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup , Holst had also reached the 2004/05 final with Hansa, in which Rostock defeated Greifswalder SV 04 4-0 ; Holst was substituted on in the 70th minute. After Rostock, however, renounced the promotion possible with the Oberliga championship, Holst moved to the second division relegated FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the regional league in the summer of 2005 .

Holst near Erfurt and Paderborn

In Erfurt Holst became a regular player straight away and completed 33 missions (one goal) in the 2005/06 season , in which Erfurt only narrowly escaped relegation. In the following seasons 2006/07 and 2007/08 Holst came to 30 missions each for Red-White (two goals in 2006/07) and thus had a significant share in the qualification of Erfurt for the newly created 3rd division from 2008/09 . Holst was most recently the captain of his team, but moved on to the second division relegated SC Paderborn 07 in summer 2008 .

For Paderborn, Holst completed his first appearance in the 3rd league on July 27, 2008 and came to another 33 appearances during the rest of the season, which he contributed to Paderborn's promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. At the end of the second division season 2009/10 , in which Holst was used 25 times, his contract with Paderborn was not extended, whereupon Holst returned to FC Hansa Rostock, who had previously moved from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 3rd division had descended.

Return to Rostock

However, due to a meniscus injury that he had sustained while in the service of Paderborn, Holst missed the preparation for the season and the first game days of the Hanseatic League and had to stop his training from August 2010. In September 2010, he was finally diagnosed with cartilage damage in his knee, which would mean that Holst would be absent from the rest of the 2010/11 season . Without Holst's involvement, the team then won the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Cup and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, which means that Holst's contract, originally dated 2012, was automatically extended to 2014.

At the beginning of the second division season 2011/12 Holst had finally cured his knee injury, but then suffered a broken rib in the pre-season so that he had to take a break for a few more weeks. Off the pitch, however, he received special attention - since Holst only wanted to shave again when he played a competitive game for Hansa, his beard hair was the subject of media coverage several times.

After Holst first played a game for Hansa's reserve team in the fifth-class Oberliga Nordost at the end of August 2011 , he made his first appearance for Hansa in the 2nd Bundesliga on September 9, 2011 and subsequently established himself as a regular in the Rostock defensive. At the end of the season, however, Rostock occupied the last place in the table and consequently rose again to the 3rd division. In this, Holst completed 35 of 38 possible games in the 2012/13 season ; the team initially fell short of expectations under Wolfgang Wolf , then under Marc Fascher and only managed to stay up on the penultimate matchday. Holst did not subsequently receive an offer to renew his contract, which would only have remained valid if he had achieved immediate resurgence.

Re-amateurization

In 2014 Holst returned to his youth club Rödemisser SV and played in the district league. In 2015 he left the club. After a break of several years, Matthias Holst returned to the active football business in 2018 and joined the regional division TSV Büsum . In the 2019/20 season he will be playing as a player-coach.
