Matthias Klink
Matthias Klink (* 1969 in Fellbach ) is a German concert, opera and operetta singer ( tenor ).
Life
Matthias Klink completed his vocal studies at the music academy in his hometown with Luisa Bosabalian and Carl Davis. He then received a scholarship for the Indiana University School of Music Bloomington / USA, as well as the award of the Franz Völker Prize for Young Stenors.
He received his first engagement at the beginning of the 1995/1996 season at the Opera Studio of the Cologne Opera , of which he became a member of the ensemble after just one year. There he sang parts of the lyric tenor subject such as Tamino ( Die Zauberflöte ), Ferrando ( Così fan tutte ), Fenton ( Falstaff ).
He has been working as a freelance artist since 1998 and has since made guest appearances at the major opera houses in Europe, such as the Hamburg State Opera , Semperoper Dresden , Frankfurt Opera , Deutsche Oper Berlin , Komische Oper Berlin , Opera Monte-Carlo, Volksoper Vienna , Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Théatre des Champs- Élysées Paris , Teatro Real Madrid etc.
Matthias Klink had a particular success in the 1997/1998 season as Belmonte ( The Abduction from the Seraglio ) in a production by Hans Neuenfels under Lothar Zagrosek at the Stuttgart State Theater . The artist has been associated with this house ever since.
In Italy he made his debut as Belmonte at the Teatro Comunale Treviso in 1995, followed by engagements in Parma, Bologna, and in 2003 at La Scala in Milan as Jaquino ( Fidelio ) under Riccardo Muti . In the 2006/2007 season Matthias Klink performed as Narraboth ( Salome ) at Scala .
In May 2006, he made his American debut at the Cincinnati May Festival as Belmonte in a concert performance under James Conlon .
From 1999 to 2001 he was a guest at the Salzburg Festival as Tamino, Arbace ( Idomeneo ), Alfred ( Die Fledermaus ) and in the world premiere of Luciano Berio's Cronaca del Luogo under Sylvain Cambreling . In the summer of 2006 he was heard there in the early Mozert opera La finta semplice .
Further invitations were made to the Schwetzingen Festival 2002 , the Baden-Baden Festival 2000/03 , the Hong Kong Arts Festival 2003/2004, the Aix-en-Provence Festival 2003/2004. At the RuhrTriennale 2003 he sang Tamino in a production by La Fura dels Baus under the baton of Marc Minkowski (TV recording for Arte).
In the 2007/08 season Matthias Klink made several role debuts. In February he sang Matteo in Arabella for the first time at the Hamburg State Opera under Simone Young . In April 2008 he made his debut as Idomeneo in a new production of the Stuttgart State Opera under Manfred Honeck and in June 2008 as the season finale of Erik in the Flying Dutchman at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .
In the 2008/2009 season Matthias Klink performed for the first time at the Vienna State Opera as Tamino and Matteo. He also made his debut as Tamino in September 2009 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In spring 2011 he sang Midas in Richard Strauss ' Die Liebe der Danae at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .
Numerous concert appearances and recitals round off his artistic work.

- 2017: Award for "Singer of the Year" by the Opernwelt magazine for his portrayal of Gustav von Aschenbach in Death in Venice at the Stuttgart Opera
- 2018: German Theater Prize Der Faust in the category Best Singer Acting Performance in Music Theater for his portrayal of Gustav von Aschenbach in Death in Venice at the Stuttgart Opera
