Mechowo (Rymań)

Mechowo (German Mönchgrund ) is a residential area in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It is located in the area of the Gmina Rymań (rural community Roman) and belongs with this to the powiat Kołobrzeski (Kolberg district) .

The residential area is located in Western Pomerania , on a road between the village of Jarkowo (Jarchow) in the south and the village of Świecie Kołobrzeskie (Schwedt) in the north. Also in the north is the Petrykozy residential area (Althof), a little off the road . The Pöskebach flows east of the village and forms the lakes Großer Pösk and Kleiner Pösk here. Both lakes were silted up before 1945 and the lake bottom was used as a meadow.

In Ludwig Wilhelm Brüggemann's detailed description of the current state of the Royal Prussian Duchy of Western and Western Pomerania (1784), Mönchgrund near Schwedt is listed among the noble estates of the Greiffenberg district : At that time, Schwedt had a "knight's seat on the Feldmark, Münchgrund with a sheep farm" .

Since at least the beginning of the 19th century, Mönchgrund had been an outbuilding of the neighboring manor Althof and was owned by the noble Wachholtz family until around 1880 . When the manor was divided up by the owner at the time around 1887, Mönchgrund was also sold and continued as a separate farm. The last German owner was Albert Wulff , who bought Mönchgrund in 1908 and managed it until 1945.

Politically, Mönchgrund initially belonged to the Althof estate . After the division of the Althof manor, the manor district was dissolved in 1901 and incorporated into the rural community of Schwedt . Until 1945 Mönchgrund then formed a residential area of the rural community Schwedt and belonged with this to the Kolberg-Körlin district of the Pomerania province .

After the Second World War , Mönchgrund, like all of Western Pomerania, came to Poland. It received the Polish place name Mechowo . Today 46 people live here (as of 2013).
