Metter is a city and also the county seat of Candler County in the US state of Georgia with 4130 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Metter is about 90 km west of Savannah and about 280 km southeast of Atlanta in eastern Georgia.
history
The Metter settlement was founded in 1889. In 1914 Metter was appointed the administrative seat of Candler County and in 1920 the place was given city status.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 4130 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 1558 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.52 people per household. There are a total of 1791 households.
64.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.12 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 35.6% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 29.7% of all households.
29.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 46.9% of the population were male and 53.1% were female.
54.2% of the population identified themselves as white , 38.1% as African-American , 0.1% as Native American and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 5.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.8% to several ethnic groups. 8.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 23,862 USD , while 32.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
