Meyer from Berlin is a German silent film in three acts by Ernst Lubitsch from 1918.

Sally Meyer has his family doctor put her on sick leave and at the same time prescribes a long vacation. Last but not least, he wants to take a vacation from a stressful married life and goes to Berchtesgaden , where he meets beautiful Kitty in the hotel. Although she is engaged, she uses the flirtation with Sally to keep all the other men in the hotel off their necks who want to go out with her. Both climb the Watzmann , whereby Sally turns out to be a bad mountaineer . Both spend the night in a mountain hut.
Paula Meyer, Sally's wife, has become suspicious and goes to Berchtesgaden herself, where she meets Harry on the train ride. This in turn is Kitty's fiancé. Both learn that Sally and Kitty have gone mountain climbing and go into pursuit. Before night falls, both of them take refuge in a shelter, where Sally and Kitty are already sleeping, hooded - Paula and Harry do not recognize the couple.
The next morning brings chaos and explanations. In the end, Sally returns to Berlin with his wife and Kitty and Harry have found each other again.

The shooting of Meyer from Berlin took place in the summer of 1918 in the Ufa Union studios in Berlin-Tempelhof and at the Watzmann and the surrounding area. The film premiered on January 17, 1919 in the UT Nollendorfplatz in Berlin .
Meyer from Berlin was still considered missing in the 1990s or only preserved in fragments, but was rediscovered in the Dutch film archive under the title Sally goes on a journey . The TV premiere was on May 5, 1995 on the Arte channel .
Before the film was rediscovered, Robert L. Carringer and Barry Sabath wrote in 1978 that the film featured Ossi Oswalda as a teenager and Erich Schönfelder as her father and Ernst Lubitsch as an apprentice. However, after the film was rediscovered, this was corrected.

“The film is called Lubitsch from beginning to end. Not just because he plays the comic hero and the hilarious plot ultimately revolves only around himself, but because no one like him has grasped the meaning and possibilities of film amusement. [...] the never tired, incessantly sprinkled joke, never missed, enables him to spice up every scene of less development in the plot.
