Michael Landgraf (theologian)
Michael Landgraf (born July 22, 1961 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German writer , Protestant theologian ( Mag. Theol. ) And local politician . He heads the religious education center of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse as well as the Neustadt Adventure Bible Museum, which he founded, and is the regional church commissioner for the Bible. He is also a lecturer for didactics. a. at the University of Mainz . In the 2019 local elections, he was elected to the city council of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse for the SPD. He has been one of Neustadt's ambassadors for culture since 2020.
He has worked in radio and television productions for SWR, ZDF and Sat.1 and is the author of the radio series “Angedacht” on Radio RPR1 . He has been a board member of the Association of German Writers in Rhineland-Palatinate since 2014, and was its chairman from 2014 to 2017. In 2018 he was appointed to the PEN Center Germany and the international PEN Club. With over 34 translations, he is one of the most translated children's book authors in Germany, won writing competitions and was a. a. awarded the international Comenius Award , the Stuttgart Bible Cross and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art .
Life
Michael Landgraf grew up in Ludwigshafen am Rhein and in Mannheim and went to school there. He completed his studies in theology as well as philosophy and history in Heidelberg and Göttingen in 1989 with a Magister Theologiae . He then worked as a vicar in Landau in the Palatinate and in Washington DC After his ordination as pastor of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate, he taught from 1991 to 1999 at the Goethe-Gymnasium Germersheim . During this time he became a forum leader and moderator at the German Evangelical Church Congress . In 1999 he moved to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Since then, as head of the Religious Education Center of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate , he has been a specialist advisor and lecturer in the training, further education and training of teachers and pastors. Since 2003 he has been nationwide spokesman for the Working Group of Religious Education Institutes for secondary level I. Since 2000, he has had teaching assignments for pedagogy and specialist didactics at the University of Landau , at the PH Karlsruhe , at the PH Heidelberg as well as at the Kirchlich-Pädagogische Hochschule Wien and at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . He also carried out educational projects in Ghana (Book Akwaaba ), Jordan (Book School for Peace and Hope ), Bolivia and West Papua (Book One World ) and was jointly responsible for the peace education symposium in Amman (Jordan), which was co-financed by the German government. . He regularly works as a lecturer in religious education at training and advanced training institutes in Germany and abroad. In 2003 he became chairman of the Palatinate Bible Association ( Biblical Society of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate) and director of the Bible Museum in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. From 2005 to 2017 he was a member of the supervisory board of the German Bible Society and received the Stuttgart Bible Cross in gold for his voluntary work. In 2020 he was appointed by the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate as regional church commissioner and appointed by the international ecumenical working group for Bible reading as a consultant for the choice of the annual slogan and the monthly sayings.
He has been a Reformation ambassador for Neustadt an der Weinstrasse since 2016 and a cultural ambassador since 2020. In the municipal elections of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2019, he was elected to the city council of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse as a non-party for the SPD and has since represented the party in the culture and adult education committee, in the crime prevention council, in the supervisory board of the municipal tourist company (TKS) and as a second Chairman of the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration. [17] In 2018, Landgraf was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and the Ministry of Art, Culture and Media for his achievements as an internationally active lecturer in religious education and a writer .
Author activity
Landgraf's literary work focuses on prose and novels, books for children and young people, non-fiction and scientific publications, school books and working aids for teaching as well as regional and dialect literature from the Palatinate. He has over 100 titles and translations in 34 languages. This makes him one of the most translated German children's book authors and the most translated writer in Rhineland-Palatinate .
These include historical novels such as Der Protestant (2016), which illuminates the Reformation period, and the 2014 novel Felix Goes to War over the First World War. Landgraf's youth novels Schalom Martin (2006) and Salam Mirjam (2008) as well as his children's book Do you know… The world religions should promote interreligious learning. He is the editor of the school books The course book Religion and Children Asking About Life as well as the book series ReliBausteine and Kennst du… .
Landgraf presents readings, lectures or city tours in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse as a person of contemporary history. He introduces the Reformation as a historical printer and reformer Zacharias Ursinus (book Ursinus told ). In this role he was seen in a ZDF production, on SWR television, in the Sat.1 program 17:30 as part of the series "Geschichte im Südwesten" (History in the South West) and on the Dutch broadcaster NPO 2 . He also appeared in the Reformation sites in Wittenberg and Dordrecht (Netherlands). In 2019 he took over the role of town clerk for Neustadt an der Weinstrasse.
Of Landgraf's publications, the most successful internationally is his children's Bible to design yourself , which has been translated into 33 languages. With the children's reading Bible , he made it into the final selection for the Catholic Children's and Young People's Book Prize in 2012 . For the work Towards Each Other - Sharing Treasures Together , he was awarded the international Comenius Award in 2018. He was also a winner of the Bockenheim dialect competition in 2016 and won the 2020 writing competition "Overcoming Borders" at the international reading festival StadtLesen in Ingelheim (2020).
Landgraf appears regularly at the Frankfurt Book Fair, at Didacta and at the German Evangelical Church Days. As a writer and performer, he was a guest at the state show of SWR television in 2015, 2017 and 2018 in the Couch talk series. As a songwriter he wrote a. a. for Reinhard Horn texts for children's songs. As an author, he is also committed to literature in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, gives many readings at schools, has been co-organizer of the Palatinate Book Fair since 2009 and founded the Neustadt cultural talk. Landgraf is co-founder of the literary group Textur and since 2018 moderator and jury speaker at the dialect competition Dannstadter Höhe . He is on the board of the Association of German Writers in Rhineland-Palatinate and was its chairman from 2014 to 2017. In 2018 he was appointed to the PEN Center Germany and the international PEN Club.
