StadtLesen is a literature festival that has been held annually in Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland since 2009 , which is committed to promoting reading by spreading the pleasure of reading with free admission.

Project

A reading “living room” with reading furniture and a collection of 3,000 to 5,000 books from a wide variety of genres will be set up on a town square . There is also the so-called Readers Corner for reading aloud as well as hammocks and beanbags for browsing and lingering.

StadtLesen sees itself as an art and cultural project that aims to create a broader public on the subject of reading and to tempt people in urban areas to read books. StadtLesen is under the patronage of the Austrian UNESCO Commission.

Every year in October, StadtLesen takes part in the Frankfurt Book Fair , with a stand in the large inner courtyard (Agora).

program

StadtLesen has no program. The reading living room is understood as an invitation to sit down, pick up a book and enjoy. There is one exception, because in many cities there is a “ bibliophile highlight” where outstanding authors or reading testimonials get in the mood for public reading enjoyment.
