Erich Hackl (born May 26, 1954 in Steyr , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian writer and literary translator .

Life

Erich Hackl spent his youth in Steyr. He attended the High School and studied then German and Hispanic Studies at the universities in Salzburg , Salamanca and Malaga . From 1977 he was lecturer for German language and Austrian literature at the Complutense University in Madrid . From 1979 to 1983 he taught German and Spanish in Vienna and from 1981 to 1990 at the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Vienna . He has been a freelance writer since 1983 . Numerous trips took him to various countries in Latin America .

Erich Hackl is a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt .
